Our mate Dylan Cuthbert has stated on the PS Blog that there’s going to be a patch in the next week or so that makes (amongst other things) “the large crystals replenish a whole half of your oscillator meter instead of a third”. Following on from other game tweaks to Monsters, it seems that Q-Games are quite happy dishing out the pain and then going back and making things a little bit easier for us normal gamers a few months down the line.
Can’t argue with that methodology, but what games would you like to see “made easier” patches for?

I think the monsters trophy challenges are too hard, given that they are only bronze!
Most games are ok because they have their own difficulty options but I find PSN titles, or specifically the trophies, are too hard

I was so happy when they made WipEout HD easier. It was so hard to progress, now you can get gold medals on novice mode and hence I am now halfway through the 7th race series of the campaign. If I had one wish it would be….
Call of Duty: World at War. Veteran mode is simply not fun! Needs to be made a lot easier. Fair play to those that have done it, but for me I’d rather spend 7 hours getting halway through an entire games single player campaign than spending it on one level, or in some cases, one checkpoint! I have done levels 1 to 6 on vet mode and don’t think I’ll be going back to it for a long, long time! Maybe even never!

That’s the point of some of the trophies thought that they are hard. There was an overwhelming sense of accomplishment when I completed veteran and platinum’d WipEout,

omg you platinumed Wipeout? I agree that trophies should be challenging to the player but Wipeouts trophies are wayyy beyond challenging. I spent ages trying to get the Beat Zico trophy and i was still about 3 seconds off the time. And how the hell did you get to zone 75???

If I ever do complete Veteran mode it won’t be accomplishment i’ll be feeling it’ll be sheer relief! It seems there is a fine line between challenging and downright impossibly ridiculous!
Well done for getting WipEout platinum. You must have Bionic eyes and reflexes!

The real question is: Would you have welcomed a wipeout HD patch if you hadn’t have been able to platinum it?

I loved veteran. Its not too impossible, and it keeps you on the story mode longer. Seeing the veteran trophies pop up one at a time is multiple orgasms

RESISTANCE 2 ON SUPERHUMAN IS TOO F*CKING HARD

It is superhuman for a reason though isn’t it ?
I think part of the reason developers do it is that it adds length to their games, making them seem like better value.

Yeah, games that offer a choice of difficulty can’t really be blamed unless the easiest is too hard. Sure superhuman on R2 is very tricky but they aren’t just gonna give away that platinum trophy are they!

That’s what most games do as standard. Take the need for speed games for example: if the AI wasn’t rubberbanded, and performance upgrades actually were useful, it would take you about a day to complete them.
Same goes for most platform games: devs hide the fact that their game is really short by making it really sodding hard.
The other thing is to not let your e-penis spoil your enjoyment of the game. If you’re playing the game on the hardest setting constantly to get a trophy, but it ultimately ends up making you incredibly pissed off, then you should take a step back. Realise there is more to a game than impressing everyone on your friends list or posting it on teh interwebz. Games are made to be enjoyed, and in the case of R2, to blast the shit out of aliens.

CoD WaW – veteran mode.
Endless grenade spam and one or two hit kills…
But then I’m a bit of a masochist and enjoy that sort of thing

Out of any game I’d say Pain
Even the bronze trophies are damned hard. I play it quite a lot and still can’t figure out how to get scores of 7.5 million. And yes I am using ooch and super ooch.

I agree, seems to be the way with PSN game trophies. I get that they should be fewer and more difficult than full games to balance with the lower price but I’ve played PAIN loads on my own and with several friends but still have only one trophy!

I love eden, but stopped playing because it was to difficult, really happy it’s going to be easier,I would also like to see pain a tad easier.

I would agree with PAIN, as I don’t think a single person has got 100% of trophies on that game. Eden is hard but there are a lot of people with 100% so it’s not too hard.

Id like to see a patch for Warhawk rewarding points for co-op kills.
I hate it when i almost kill someone and at the last second someone shoots once and kills the person i worked my ass off to kill.
Perhaps something similar to call of duty should go into effect.
And maybe making the rankings a little easier to achieve.

I like the XP they introduced in Resistance 2 as well. Every hit is worth XP based on the damage you do so you can, in theory, make no kills but still win on XP and level up.

Hang on, are we playing games to earn trophies, or because we enjoy and want to play the game?
Maybe it’s just me, or more accurately, a reflection of my limited gaming time. I’m more than happy to see the Trophies pop up, but they are a bonus for playing the game, not the reason to play it.
If they choose to make games easier, like PJM and PJE then that’s great, but they shouldn’t change trophy requirements, that would just annoy the people who had worked hard to achieve them. I just personally don’t believe games should be hard work – I have a job for that

I see your point but I think trophies should be both. Bronze for things you just do in playing the game. Silver for doing things very well/efficiently/quickly and gold for the things that need specific effort and dedication. Some people like you and I just want to play the game and enjoy it so will harvest some bronze and the odd silver while others are experts or hardcore gamers so will get more out of it if they can strive for golds.
If they are all awarded for just playing it they have no value but if they are all too hard, people won’t bother so they won’t offer anything to the game.
This is why I think PSN title tophies are ‘too hard’ as even Bronze is hardcore.

Yeah that’s exactly my views on trophies. Bronze easy, Silver a bit of a challenge and Gold being pretty hard.

The worst trophy I’ve come across is “Wages of Conflict” in Far Cry 2. You have to collect all the hidden diamond briefcases in the game (and by hidden, the mean extremely well hidden in some cases), plus all of the ones gained through doing missions. And after all that you’re awarded a fucking bronze.

I agree…I posted a similar comment further up the page. Play the game to enjoy it, not to impress.
I realise now why I enjoyed my non internet enabled PS2 so much more: you do what you want in the game without your every move being watched by your PSN friends. Not that I have friends that do that (ok I had one, but I removed him), but I’m sure that it’s a massive problem for some people.

I’m not fussed about Trophies, if one crops up as I play through a game, then great. I play the games I enjoy, and I enjoy the games I play, you can keep your Trophies as far as I’m concerned.
On Fifa ‘09 I win every single game on World Class, but can’t do better than a draw on Legendary,
I’m a Fifa veteran and am as good as I’m going to get, I’ve got hundreds of paying hours under my belt, and I just think the difference between World Class and Legendary is a bit skewed.

I only really like playing Fifa against other people. It only takes a season or so to work out the best way to play against the AI.

Traditional delay
Now I’ll also try to advance further through the gardens. I like the style of PJE, but the time-limit/must-collect-crystals makes it unnecessarily stressful.
