As a nice start to the new week, we have an official release date for you to roughly mark your calendars with. Tekken 6 will be released in America on October the 27th with the EU version landing in “close proximity”. Woo!
What’s not so great is the footage on display below. First shown at E3 earlier this month, it’s a campaign mode for the game that should last up to 10 hours and will include online co-op. Another little snippet roaming the internet is that the Cardboard Tube Samurai from Penny Arcade will be featured in the game complete with Pac Man robes.
I’m not the best with fighting games, but from the comments around the internet, the new mode looks poor. Like an attempt to get ahead of the competition and offer something different. I think it looks interesting but, like I said, I’m not the best with these. Let us know what you think below.

I’ve always enjoyed the Tekken games from the original on the PS1 but I think they’ve been flogging a dead horse with these last few games. I’ll probably still get it though.

as long as I can still play 2 player VS a friend either on the sofa or online, and they get that right, then this campaign mode will not be much of an issue to me, even if it does fail.

That looks aweful. didn’t they try to do something similar in a previous tekken game? I’m sure they did and i’m certain it was rubbish.

Tekken 3 had Tekken Force mode : an vagually enjoyable distraction from the main game. I’m guessing this will be pretty much the same.

I think it looks good, an extra element to a game that can get boring rather easily when you are playing yourself. I like tekken games and welcome that feature if it gives the game more depth even if it’s just an added extra.
It will also allow for better implementation of trophy support into the game I think.
I’m usually quite quick to judge but in recent weeks I’m trying not to, so I’ll wait until it’s release before I make my call.

maybe im just too oldskool but there’s always been something jaggy and stilted about the tekken series when compared to the fluidity of street fighter.
i’m not really too bothered about fighting games at the mo anyway – needs new innovation. i expect that new innovation will be physics/ragdoll related…blows actually impacting on a given area and having a proper physics effect. bones with actual mass that reacts and breaks?
i guess ragdoll kungfu kind of tried it but it’s needs a more serious setting.
wake me up when it happens!!! lol

I used to love the Tekken series, but I think the whole beat ‘em up genre, is becoming a bit stale, and starting to look old-fashioned.. I bought Soul Calibur 4, and got bored really quickly. I think the genre needs a re-invention, like the platform, RPG and adventure genre’s did.

Too right. I’m still loving SFIV after around 30 hours of play but I couldn’t be arsed with Soul Calibur past the demo and I’m not certain whether I’d bother with another DoA or Tekken.
Y’know what would be nice? Some sort of Shenmue-type game. The concept was brilliant – I remember it went a bit astray by making you get a job (read: daily, repetitive minigame) but the idea of incorporating a solid fighting dynamic into a massive RPG-type world would be welcome.
Does Ninja Gaiden qualify as a beat ‘em up? I bloody loved that when first I got it.

That mode looks worthless…reminds me of Fighting Force only not as much fun.

Unfortunatly, cannot see the video. But a sidequest in a fighting game is always welcome. I like a lot Soulcalibur III for that. And even Mortal Kombat Armagedon story mode was kinda funny.
Reading the comments, it seems that Tekken failed to deliver hype for such a side mode.

I was really looking forward to the new tekken, thought they’d do something new. But the graphics have barely changed and this just looks like tekken force mode
