In an interview hosted on DailyMotion (in French) Polyphony’s Kaz Yamauchi speaks about Gran Turismo 5 and Gamescom. When asked why there hasn’t been much news about the game, Kaz says that he’s “just thankful that so many people are interested in Gran Turismo 5″ and that they are “are doing everything to make the game come out soon.” Naturally the guys are hard at work making sure GT PSP makes it out for October 1st (and remember there’s still time for a last minute delay) but he did confirm that Gran Turismo 5 “should be out shortly after that date”.
Regarding damage (and the rather inconsistent modeling at Gamescom) Kaz says that the version of the game he brought to the Gamescom “marks the first step of what we are trying to do with the damage” and that gamers “can finally see that much damage appear on the bodywork.” But it’s not the final damage system – “we’re interested to know how far the players want to go,” says Yamauchi-san. “The damage already has repercussions on the steering but beware, it should not affect all vehicles in the game.” This reinforces what we said earlier in the week about the number of cars that can be damaged.
Some people have speculated that Sony were going to do a big GT 5 feature as part of the press conference but it was pulled at the eleventh hour to make way for other surprises. We’ll have to keen an eye on TGS, then.

I still have confidence in Polyphony. I hope it isn’t misplaced but so far this looks good. I hope it doesn’t slip too far as well, and that goes for GT PSP as well

If we go on past GT release then i am expecting a release for Japan to be announced at TGS for the end of this year with America and the EU getting it in March 2010. That said the March 2010 period is already looking crowded so maybe Polyphony will actually do a worldwide release for December this year!
If they do it will make my year and end my social life for 2010!

Sorry to say that I loved the original, but the game hasn’t changed since the first one, except the damage, but even that looks rubbish on the footage we have seen. I think I will be leaving this alone again. Shame really as the original was fantastic.

well if you like playing the same game again then yeah I should like it. But personally the original idea rubs off for me after one game. It’s like Gran Turismo, 5 games down the line and nothing has changed.
It gets boring.

With you (to a degree) on this one, BB. Same for the likes of Tekken. Each new version feels like a graphical upgrade and little else. I don’t have enough time in the day to play my favourite games as it is, but it’s a shame when I look at the likes of Gran Turismo with “if only” eyes.

At least with Tekken though you get new characters which give you new fighting styles and mechanics to an extent. I mean Steve changed the way I play Tekken a lot.

I don’t know, it seems awfully close between this and Forza 3.

So the damage in this build was the first iteration of damage, but they still want it out shortly after October 1st? This may just be me, but GT5 is starting to feel an awful lot like Duke Nukem forever. They keep upgrading the tech and adding new features, rather than releasing the damned thing.

I ran into a Sony rep the other day at a “Gamestore” which I don’t care to disclose, but when I asked him about GT5 release date he confirmed that it WILL be announced at TGS.
