Review: LittleBigPlanet PSP [40]

SCEE have absolutely definitely not been waiting for a release date for Nintendo’s New Super Mario Bros Wii so they can pitch LittleBigPlanet PSP against it.  No way. So, it’s with some coincidence that both 2.5D platformers will be released on the same day: November 20th, according to CVG.  Nobody really knows very much about LittleBigPlanet PSP except that it’s a little bit smaller, has only two platformy fields instead of three and doesn’t have multiplayer.  It also fits in the palm of your hand, doesn’t need a TV and costs money.

Seriously, that’s all I know.  If this was the 80’s I’d be reading a magazine that would tell me all about it, but I can’t seem to find a modern equivalent.  Shame.

  1. Really interesting to see how this plays, and how the level design works. I’d feel a lot less guilty designing levels on my PSP than I would if I was hogging the TV for nightsd on end…

    • ^ this. I’d have done sooo many amazing levels if the missus hadn’t wanted to watch corrie! It has nothing to do with me taking 3 hours to build a tree.

  2. You know that it can still be delayed if somebody doesn’t like the songs ;)

    • Don’t jinx it!

    • What happens if someone makes No Doubt or Kurt Cobain in the game and makes them sing along to Avril Lavigne?

  3. I’d feel a lot less guilty about my levels being so lame if I only have 2 platform fields.

  4. Played this at the EG Expo and was pretty good. Felt very comfortable playing it on the Go, controllers were solid so gonna get this when its out i think

  5. It would be GREAT if there was some sort of interaction between the two… send objects you designed on the PSP over to the PS3, for instance…

  6. I just hope there’s a T-Shirt available to buy on PSN on launch day with the developer’s logo on it, I’d spend good money on that T-Shirt. Hmmmmm.

  7. It’s not just being pitched against Super Mario, Jak and Daxter is released on the PSP the same day. I also believe Assassins Creed Bloodlines and F1 2009 are out on the PSP the same day too. Thats one mega release list for the PSP on the 20th.

  8. Not much build-up surrounding LBP PSP really until now, considering it is so close to release. Surprised at it’s low price tag of £17.99 (on play.com anyway). Really hope this game has near-enough the same possibilities in creation as the PS3 version, as that way it can be a PSP game that I can actually play for a whole plane flight without being bored (as long as it is not like a 20 hour one of course).
Really anticipating this game, will probably get for Christmas alongside either GT PSP or Motorstorm, however I really enjoy the PES games on PSP so I’ll probably struggle to resist this years version. ;)

  9. Top of my christmas list

  10. I loved the voice more than the rest of the advert

  11. @Nofi – Just thought I would let you know that while on the PS3 browser you can’t reply to posts in the forum, know whats up?

    • while we’re on the subject of different browsers, what happened to TSA for mobile? (as in, PSP) I always used it :(
Thats one of the reasons i visit Joystiq more regularly tbh..

  12. Does Stephen Fry do the voice over?

    • Perhaps that’s him doing the music.

  13. Hi guys,

I am visiting TSA for ages now, but finally decided to post a comment here :P

Two days ago, SCEB (Sony Computer Entertainment Benelux, I’m from The Netherlands) mailed me a PSN code to download the reviewcode of LBP for the PSP. Long story how they got my e-mail adress, so I’ll skip that :P Anyway, the fact is that I got it, and will write a review about it on a dutch gaming site. I was very enthousiastic with this news, because I’ve never played a reviewcode before. Heck, I can even play the game before it’s even leaked on the web! And… even Nofi hasn’t played it!!! :D :P

Anyhow, the game itself is brilliant, I must say! I didn’t even notice that it only has 2 layers, until I read that here, lol! Also, Stephen Fry does the voice over for the English language (haven’t checked out the other twenty-or-so languages, but I wonder if there are other voice overs, since the game is just over 1.3 GB in size)

If you guys have some more questions about the game, then I’m happy to awnser them! :)

    Cheers,
    Morphweasel

    • Are there any links to LBP PS3?

      • Well, I haven’t seen the Collector nor the King yet, so it’s a complete diffrent story. However, all the core elements of the PS3 version are in there (apart from the lack of multiplayer, that is).

If you mean links to LBP PS3 like in connecting the two games with each other, then I’m affraid the awnser is no. I haven’t found an option like that anywhere in the game, and even the instruction manual doens’t mention antything about it. I can’t go online with the game yet, but I’m afraid you also can’t play the PS3 cumunity levels on your PSP and vice versa. Too bad! :(

  14. Looks nice, but I think I might have had my fill of LBP with the PS3 version. Probably going to pass on this one.

  15. more reason to get a 3000 for xmas
