PS3Gen is reporting that Sony are ‘secretly’ planning to enable PSP Minis to run on PS3s, and apparently before the end of the year. As can be seen in our recent PSP Minis round-up there’s some absolute crackers on the service already, but as far as I’m concerned they work best on a portable medium whilst on the bus (or the loo), not necessarily blown up to fill a 40″ HD television for hours on end – Fieldrunners, Kahoots, Blast Off – there’s some great stuff there.
Still, if all this comes off at least the developers of the Minis will see a much bigger target audience given the original game hungry PS3 crowd every Thursday.
We’ll put the feelers out, so to speak.

I would love that! I just love to play dumb games like tetris for ten minutes or so when I’m a little bored. I don’t always feel like getting my psp.

Haha!! Glad to see someone else other than myself playing the Minis on the loo =D

Hmmm be cool to play then on both consoles… I assume it would work like PS1 games work.

I was just thinking yesterday that a PSP emulator on the PS3 would be a good idea with practically no downsides, playing these minis on PSP would be great when you fancy a quick 5 or 10 minute blast

i’ve been saying they should create a psp emulator for ps3 for ages.
with the number of psp games on the store now i’d bet there are a few games that people without psps would buy if they could play them on the ps3.

Does this relate in anyway to something being found in the latest PS3 firmware… I hear it hints towards PSP compatibility…?

Cool, I like the idea of this, I love a few silly little games in between of some serious gaming.

HMMM… interesting idea but would we be asked to buy the mini’s for a 2nd time?
i know the idea sounds stupid but hey… UMD to digital shouldn’t have been a problem either right? ;)

i would imagine you could just download them on the ps3 on the account you bought them on.

I dunno if it would be as simple as that. you may be asked to pay like a charge a ‘HD Tax’ if you will to allow these games to work. the same kind of idea alot of people have said might happen with PS2 bac-compat on PS3 or a better example would be transferring Rock Band 1 songs to Rock Band 2

I see no reason why they would charge you again. Think of the ps1 classics you can play on both psp and ps3, there’s no extra charge there.

No, they won’t charge you again, no way.

I would love this to be true, it would be nice to have some cheap little indie games available for PS3. In fact it was something I suggested on the blog, just like I suggested they should make the grey friends list bars colour selectable. I feel like those people on the Windows 7 ads – the PS3 was my idea! lol
Mind you, I hope it is done as emulation on the existing releases – I don’t want there to be separate PS3 version (for a separate price). This must be in Sony’s interest too, if someone has a decent selection of dual-format titles on their PS3 they would surely be more tempted to buy a PSPGo. In an ideal world all PSN titles would be interoperable between the PS3/PSP, maybe that will be something they could do with the PS4/PSP2, though it’s probably not that easy in practice.
Thinking about it they could also give you a virtual PSPGo in Home that recognised and PSP compatible titles in your harddrive, it would be great advertising for the PSPGo and could work like a PSPGo works for things like local multiplayer and maybe they could even allow you to ‘look over the shoulder’ of the person playing it. I’m not saying you’d go into Home specifically for that, but mini-games are popular in Home, so if you were waiting for something/someone you could access your PSP and play a game within the game. Just one of many interesting possible applications for Home that Sony seem to ignore and leave us instead with costumes and dance moves…

Some awesome ideas… are they too good to come true though… Lets hope not!

If they make a full PSP emulator – which would be very nice – it would be really cool to make it look like a giant PSPGo on screen. Not just in home but an option under ‘Games’ on the XMB to fire up the PSP emulator and the screen changes to an image of the Go sliding open and you’re off!
I would certainly get some of the minis, I allready think I’ve spent more money on PSN games than on disc games.

“not necessarily blown up to fill a 40″ HD television”
- i agree with this bit, while its in no way a negative to put them on the ps3 (even if it sucks its another option) i dont think they will be as good. when playing a short blast game i thinkt he PSN games are better than Minis
