You may remember that a week or so ago we brought you news of the United States Military’s intentions to create a PS3 cluster to aid them in their military endeavours. Well…

Ladies and gentlemen; introducing the PS3 cluster:

  1. Hmmmmm, processing power.
A lot less expensive than actual CELL BE boards, you can get PCI ones for about £6k

    • How does that work, im not up to tech specs on all this??? Surely the CELL chips would be cheaper on there own…

      • they might be using it for gaming as well as research, :)

      • Yeah, the US army all set up for training aka MAG!

      • No, because of the way the video game business is traditionally set-up the hardware is subsidized in order to profit off of software. If you summed up the components in the PS3 it would cost more than you pay for it. As mentioned above, its not just the cell, but the architecture to utilize it. Even if the processor can be had for $300 or so, building a system to have multiple cells work in tandem would likely be far more expensive.

  2. I can see alot of YLOD issues unless that room is a fridge like our server room at work!

  3. skynet, kill it now :o

    • LOL, this made me chuckle

      • where’s christian bale when you need him?

      • What, so he can shout explicits at them?

      • might work if he used his growly batman voice.

      • You mean he has other acting voices?

      • yeah growly and shouty. :)

      • Id prefer a American Psycho witty rant then butcher

    • i’ll go back in time and make sure their mom’s are never born, or something

    • You forgot his “no higher than a mere whisper Equilibrium” voice.

    • I’m already on my way to Switzerland to go to the he Large Hardon Collider to use it to travel back in time and kill the designer of the PS3.

      • The Large HARDON Collider?!?!? Freudian slip or Best. Spelling Mistake. Ever.

  4. nice i love them fats

  5. PS3splosion! That’s awesome.

  6. That’s alotta PS3’s. If the U.S.A.F has invested this much into PS3’s helping with research and other things I gotta believe that this is worthwhile. I would like a list of the things the system is doing for the country, especially since i pay the taxes for this program to work.

  7. look at that power. don’t mess with the ps3 overlord lol.

    • I bet it gets pretty warm in there too.

  8. I bet the online play is still laggy and the XMB pauses for minutes at a time randomly,

  9. but they could only afford one telly….d’oh

    • If you bought all those PS3s how much would you have left to spend on tvs?

  10. MAG lan party ?

  11. these guys must have some awesome MW2 LAN parties after quittin’ time!

  12. holy moly, looks like ps3 transformes.

  13. So many… so many beautiful consoles…
