You may remember that a week or so ago we brought you news of the United States Military’s intentions to create a PS3 cluster to aid them in their military endeavours. Well…
Ladies and gentlemen; introducing the PS3 cluster:

Hmmmmm, processing power.
A lot less expensive than actual CELL BE boards, you can get PCI ones for about £6k

How does that work, im not up to tech specs on all this??? Surely the CELL chips would be cheaper on there own…

No, because of the way the video game business is traditionally set-up the hardware is subsidized in order to profit off of software. If you summed up the components in the PS3 it would cost more than you pay for it. As mentioned above, its not just the cell, but the architecture to utilize it. Even if the processor can be had for $300 or so, building a system to have multiple cells work in tandem would likely be far more expensive.

That’s alotta PS3’s. If the U.S.A.F has invested this much into PS3’s helping with research and other things I gotta believe that this is worthwhile. I would like a list of the things the system is doing for the country, especially since i pay the taxes for this program to work.
