PS3 Motion Controller Named “Gem”? [54]

Our gadget-obsessed buddies over at T3 have posted images of a PlayStation 3 Motion Controller. Possibly the Gem or Wand or Lady-pleasurer or whatever we’re calling it now. It looks quite nice if you’re asking me. Which you’re not but have my opinion anyway.

Cue the gallery because a picture is worth a thousand words. Or possibly two thousand of mine. I really like pictures.

Update: I’ve been told I wasn’t clear enough (and they’re right, I wasn’t). These are concept images made by T3, not official photographs!

  1. A looks quite good but I still think it needs an analogue stick.

    • I was just posing that question via email with a couple of colleagues. Do you think that big button-like thing in the middle is an R1 substitute or an analogue nub?

Without some sort of directional thing I imagine it’ll need a “nunchuck” to be useful outside of casual rubbish.

    • Yeah the decision to not include one is beyond me!

    • I’d say that the long button isn’t a button but a touch pad. Would make much more sense than and analogue stick.

      • It’s convex though, that’d be a really weird shape for a touch pad. You wouldn’t be able to use the edges.

    • Amen to that!

      • It does haev a analogue stick though

  2. I love it. I was hoping it had buttons and it has enough, but not too many. If they released this I’d buy it.

    • i totally agree this thing looks sleek and sexy haha. really cool even if it is just a concept.

  3. Still looks like an odd sex toy.

    • Very true, it’s the big pink bit at the end…

      • If I got one I would need to hide it from the missus when I’m away, she may use it for……….

      • especially if they would include rumble…

      • cam, are you not ‘the man’ enough or something?

    • Exactly what I was thinking mate!

  4. Looks quite impressive. It will be interesting to see what what 2010 brings

  5. I’d prefer it if the X, O etc. buttons were in the same formation as the Dual Shock, rather than having them in that rectangle shape.

  6. Cool, looks like you can even control the XMB with these… Just look at the PS button…

  7. I would be more than happy if Sony had this down as there design…or something very similar.

  8. Image 7 looks like there’s trigger buttons underneath..  I wonder if all the DS3 buttons are represented?  Still, looks nice although I hope we can change the colour of the glowy ball, pink doesnt really suit me.

  9. That looks very nice indeed.

    Roll on Spring!

  10. Interesting placement of the face buttons – in a square as opposed to a diamond shape we are all used to.

would love the ‘ball’ part to get some custom revisions – think bowling balls with liquid centres…

    The Dude abides man!

  11. Despite it looking like a sex toy, I think it’s a silly idea anyway.

If I wanted to wave my arms around like a lunatic, I’d have bought a Wii.

    • This isn’t waggle though…

      • Yeah, but still. >_>”

  12. The X, O etc… buttons are in the wrong order, and without an analogue control it will need a nunchuck accessory for yet more £££’s

If that is the final design, and layout I’d be hard pushed to see it working outside of Cooking Mama

    • Touch pad in the middle?

      • Cooking Mama with a touchpad?…. maybe Nintendogs as well then

    • the buttons are in the right order, the layout has just been rotated by 45 degrees.
imagine the x at the bottom and the triangle at the top the square and circle would be in the right places.

  13. I’m assuming that the button in the middle of the other 4 is the R1 replacement, R2 being underneath the wand.

Any nunchuck equivalent (or using the dualshock offhand as has been done for the Resi 5 demo) would supply the left analogue stick, L2 and L1 buttons.

  14. looks pretty sleek……

  15. I quite like it apart from the huge ridiculous pink ball on the top. I know these aren’t official images but I still can’t believe Sony are planning on running with that monstrosity.

    • Apparently the ball can change colour – not entirely sure why – possibly to indicate different players to the camera.

      • yes

      • they’d be great for a concert though, imagine thousands of people in the crowd each with one of them held up in the air, safer than holding a lighter up anyway.
