Crackdown 2’s producer, James Cope, has revealed that the Ruffian Games-developed sequel to Crackdown will be getting a demo before the game is released. There is still no word on when that release is but we do know that it is coming sooner rather than later.

You can definitely expect a demo to hit Live before the game is out but I can’t say when that will be… yet. The Crackdown demo was fantastic and we want to carry on in that form.

He confirmed the demo during an interview with IGN but he also revealed that the game will feature helicopters quite extensively. As well as these armed flying machines you will also come across tank-like vehicles which you can use to cause ”extensive collateral damage” with a co-op friend or two.

Taking over the reins from Realtime Worlds, Ruffian have also changed the mission structure of the game to make it more of an in-depth experience (supposedly) rather than the linear, repetitive structure of the original. Cope didn’t want to give too much away but he says that missions in Crackdown 2 will require a more tactical train of thought.  The same train of thought will also come in handy when it comes to collecting some of the games newest Orbs.

  1. I wonder if the first crackdown sold because of good reviews or the Halo3 beta.

    • probably didn’t hurt.
was still a fun game though.

    • I loved Crackdown. one of my favourite games for the 360. Crackdown 2 makes me very jealous and upset that I no longer have a 360.

      • Then buy one! This and Mass Effect 2 are probably going to be my only 360 purchases this year and I’m really looking forward to them.

    • This is only from my point of view and not indicative of the general populous but most people I knew and most people I chatted with on IRC and in forums only bought Crackdown to get the Halo 3 beta access and sold the game afterwards – which to me was a real shame and a big mistake. Crackdown has to be one of my favourite 360 games, one I wish was on the PS3. Now there will be a Crackdown 2 demo (and the game) it gives me a reason to turn my 360 back on!

  2. I absolutely loved the first Crackdown when I played it on my mate’s 360, it’s the only 360 port that I really wish the PS3 could get.

  3. You know, I really didn’t like the original Crackdown, so it pleases me they are releasing a demo. Gives them a chance to sell me on the sequel, because without it, I definitely wouldn’t take the chance.
