According to French website Jeux Video (via CVG) Ubisoft may well be taking on FIFA and PES by making their very own football game.
Apparently the French publisher have turned to “several English clubs” to help with the game’s development; Liverpool FC were named along with captain Steven Gerrard. If this information is accurate then we might also be able to believe that Ubisoft’s sporting venture may be with us before the year is up. Ubisoft have yet to comment.
Last year’s FIFA 10 was the dominant football game but can a third brand a) bring anything new and b) persuade current FIFA/PES fans to ‘jump ship’?

yea? sounds interesting. Was good when there were loads of football games. TIF, Pro Evo, and Fifa used to battle it out at one point.

The industry badly needs a third title… hopefully the other two will stop being so comfy with the marketshare they’re currently attracting and continue to up their game

totally agree! The last really good soccer game I played was FIFA WorldCup ‘98. After that it went pretty much downwards for both the main titles. Bring on the competition.

I agree, but thats not the point – competition breeds innovation and improvement, so if there was a 3rd entrant, which is pretty far from certain then the best will need to get better, which is a bonus for us FIFA fans

I wonder when Activision will feel the need of a new soccer game in the market and develop their own… Cause you know this on-going war between Activision and EA is getting pretty intense…
Anxious to see what Ubisoft brings to the market! =D

I think Ubisoft will have to do something truely amazing to take on FIFA and PES. As they both crushed TIF, Club Football and any other one off title.

I’d settle for any Sensible Soccer. I’m not fussed about management options in Sensi, the original was good enough for me back in the day. I did buy the 2006 version on PS2 though. A port of the XB-Live version would do me.

If Ubisoft plan to do this they should focus on the entire movement of the ball and how the team moves & react. Most importantly everyting must be perfect especially the keepers.
If not this is just another football game not worth playing

Hang on, I thought PES was Liverpool’s official football game. Why would they be helping Ubisoft?

Ah ha so this explain why Gerrard has been by his standards average this season for my club , he has been so busy helping Ubisoft . Jokes aside though I wish them well because FIFA and PES need a kick up the arse . I used to like a bit of Actua Soccer back on the old PS and a mate used to have This Is Football which wasnt all that bad . The more the merrier .

Best footy game ever? Emlyn Hughes’ international soccer on the Spectrum!!! Followed by Olympic Soccer / Soccer97 on ps1 with Alan Green’s genius commentary (t…tk….t, must get these teeth fixed!)

This is going to fail big time, nearly all Ubisoft games are glitch ridden, imagine them trying to take on the complexities of a football game on a next gen console, it’ll be worse than PES.
