So far only found on the Best Buy and Walmart sites, the Alan Wake Special Edition is something I definitely hope we see over here. The Xbox exclusive is priced at $80 and the only retailer I can find in the UK is Play.com, who have a Limited Edition for £49.99 but its contents are unknown.

Included in the Special Edition is:

  • Game Disc in box with unique art
  • Exclusive In-Game Audio Commentary and Hints by Remedy
  • “The Alan Wake Files” – a 144pg book that includes a short story written by Alan Wake and compiles the FBI dossiers investigating the events in Bright Falls, WA
  • Exclusive Audio Disc with Soundtrack and Score
  • Game Add-on token redeemable on Xbox LIVE for the first Alan Wake add-on content pack
  • Exclusive Xbox disc with special content: Alan Wake Xbox Live Theme and Alan Wake Avatar for Xbox LIVE

And here’s a picture of the box, although it’s not very exciting.

Nothing has been confirmed but this is proof enough that an alternative to the regular edition will be released. Hopefully we’ll hear more from Peter over in San Francisco soon.

Along with the Special Edition a new trailer has been leaked, showing off some of the glorious graphics and revealing a release date somewhere in May.

Update: An exact release date has now been confirmed. It will be hitting North America on Tuesday, May 18th and Europe on Friday, May 21st.
