Peter Molyneux has said that any fears over Project Natal having lag are unfounded.
Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz the Microsoft man told the website that there have been “countless revisions of cameras and countless revisions of software since the demo units shown to press and celebrities in recent weeks were produced.”
The criticism for the camera came after Jonathan Ross commented via his Twitter account that Natal was “not quite there yet”, although Microsoft soon came out to reveal that this was an old build of the technology.
Molyneux meanwhile has been stating his frustration at not being able to show the camera off more saying,
It’s always a huge frustration as a designer when you see somebody play a version when you know it’s been exceeded many times over.
It so often happens, because you do a version for a show and then you don’t do another version because you’re too busy developing the game.”
He added,
So very often you get a position that what a person’s looking at is two, three, four months, a year old and you kind of want to go, ‘no, no, it’s 10 times better than that!’ So it is very, very frustrating; it always is – there’s just countless revisions of cameras since the one at X10 and countless revisions of software.
So there you go, Natal isn’t laggy and the World is a better place, thanks Peter.

also, why give some celebs, who are probably dying for some more media attention, old software? They would be bound to exploit it, just to get some attention and news (like they now have!)

Or they could have straight up said, “this version is a couple of months old, so don’t worry about the lag, we’ve just not had a chance to make a new demo yet”…

I’m sorry, but the 360 and PS3 controllers, and the wii remote suffer from lag and even Natal and the ps3 whatever-the-hell-they-call-it will suffer as well. All it is is how fast they can make it work.

This is Peter Molyneux saying this so, I wouldn’t be too sure about the laglessness. Although if this is true, that’s great and it could be really cool with some games.
And if the tech shown off to the celebs was a few months old, why were they using it? Why not use the newer, better working tech?

PM is a 1st class twat. End of. Jonathan Ross is cool but hardly a way to proove something works and works well. A Credible no bias gamer type maybe. MS with their sales tactics – unhand and smoke screen yes, effective also yes.
Natal/Arc – will be pants – however i really hope they both proove me wrong as I would really like to excited about them.

i am surprised they would release a video of old technology when they have already improved on it. why not save the hassle and bury the old footage and take some new footage of the better update. i seriously doubt they were too busy developing to send an intern out to go and film some footage of them playing it.

Considering this is the Molyneux talking. I’m surprised he stopped at saying it had just been improved since demo units were issued. I’m surprised he didn’t tell us that it was going to fly, time travel, cause you to cry, create life and eventually exist without any need for a player. I prefer restrained Peter.

Maybe they just want to keep the best cameras for devs to build better games or just expect celebs to be too off there heads to notice lag.

My guess on why they didn’t show it to the celebs is that they didn’t want to take the time to put together all the bells and whistles that would be required to show it off. I expect what we see at GDC may be an entirely new build.

And if not at GDC, then definitely at E3. They’ve still got another eight months or so? They could even show it at TGS.
