Good news for those of you eager to get wet recently only to be denied by Heavy Rain’s infamous Black Screen of … well, nothing really. A new patch taking the game up to 1.02 is now available. Apparently only affecting “1 in 700 players” (I feel so special), unlucky interactive drama-philes were stricken by a crippling loading glitch where, not remembering if you fed Jason or decided to punt him through the window for being an annoying snot, the game took it upon itself to become the ultimate noire-piece and give up the ghost entirely. How’s that for taking innovation in games to the next level?
It is possible to drag your save file back on the righteous path kicking and screaming, but – trust us – it’s a bit of a hassle, and when you fork out cash for one of the year’s most wanted games, no one should be expected to have to trawl through message boards on a quest to rescue Heavy Rain from its own inane hiccups.
While the patch primarily addresses the game’s numerous freezing woes, we’re also assured other graphical glitches and sound drops have been remedied. We’re pretty sure, however, that it won’t go so far as to stop all the children in the game from looking like they’ve crawled right out of the uncanny valley. I spent most of the time ruining away from the dead-eyed little critters. Before the game shat itself, of course.
The update is a whopping 36MB. Don’t download it all at once. Think of the Internet children.
