Lunchtime Discussion: Last Gen Trophies

Sadly I snapped my laptop charger last night, I haven’t had time to get a Lunchtime Discussion. In a fortunate twist of fate I was also sent this discussion from the wonderful Lorcan mear hours before my charger’s demise. He clearly has some kind of genius foresight, not only bailing me out before I need it and writing this discussion that touches on people moaning before people started to complain about the PS3 Linux issue that nofi weighed in on this morning.

People puzzle me..

Just last Wednesday we reported that Sony were apparently looking at introducing trophies to old PS1 games. This, to me, sounds like a fantastic idea. You get to enjoy the nostalgic fun of a PS1 classic, and at the same time have something to earn and work for. We all love earning trophies, so combining that with PS1 games makes perfect sense.

But when I scrolled down through the comments, all I could see was people complaining. Mostly about the lack of PS2 support, but this doesn’t have anything to do with PS2 support. This is about upping the service of PS1 support. From what I can see, Sony haven’t said anything on PS2 support which suggests that they’re either struggling with it, or are waiting for the actual console to stop selling before they deliver everyone’s most anticipated firmware update.

As a long term reader of TSA before I was ever staff or even a member, I’m used to reading about people’s love for their first ever console. The PS1 was my first console and it’s the PS1 games on the store that ignite that nostalgic flame in me. So the PS1′s entire library, on the store, with trophies, is my idea of a wet dream.

So is it that you’re outright against PS1 games gaining trophies or do you just think that Sony could be spending their time a little better? And if you do think that the PS2 support is coming, when do you think that will be, and what could be holding it up?
