We reported recently that ModNation Racers’ online mode was locked down when it came to racing fellow modified kart-lovers in regions other than your own. We posited that the reason behind this decision was not some spiteful or xenophobic tendency on behalf of the game’s developers, United Front Games, but likely due to issues with streaming, fidelity, and — you know — other crazy voodoo technical shit that we don’t understand.
William Ho, United Front Games’ Lead Designer on ModNation Racers, has confirmed our speculation:
“About regions: ModNation Racers works across all regions for all community features, but not for online races at this time. In order to ensure quality of service while synchronizing twelve players, weapons, and dynamic elements, we are limiting race matchmaking to your region (i.e. Europe, North America).”
The most important words above? At this time. OK, we admit it, we’re reaching a little.
