Online retailer Play.com has listed PlayStation Move, the Navigation Controller and a starter pack for pre-order. The starter pack (pictured below) lands at £49.99 but comes with a ‘starter disc’ rather than a copy of Sports Champions.
Stand alone, and indeed sit alone, bent knees legs evenly spaced swinging a virtual gold club alone, stealthy hiding behind the sofa for a sneak kill alone and dancing like a Muppet on speed with your Grandma, uhm, not alone, controllers will set you back £39.99.
The Navigation Sub Controller, which I am reliably informed works with my PlayStation rather than that toy version of Stingray I have in the bath, lands at £29.99.
Yesterday Sony announced the European price for the Starter Pack would be €59.99, with Move controllers costing €39.99 and Navigation Controllers at €29.99. It seems 1€ = 1£ these days.
Don’t forget, if you are gong to shop with Play.com just use this handy link here and you will be helping the TSA biscuit fund, we’re out of Garibaldi and I really like them.

Seems reasonable to get started, although I think something like Move Party (or equivalent) could be in a bundle price, not a demo disk
either way it soon adds up if you wanna get the best out of it
Origami Killer
starter pack it quite good price :) but no games with it. i relly want to give move a try
teflon
Not the nicest pricing I’ve ever seen.
Since I’m not 100% on the Move, and I’m plenty happy using my DS3 for KZ3 etc. etc.
Think I’ll use the money for PSN+ or wait for a better bundles.
Apnomis
Ok I’ve already posted this in reply to the comment about this, but since it has it’s own article now I will repost it here:
Look at the US pricing of Move, now look at the US pricing of a DualShock 3, a PS Eye, the official Blu-ray remote, etc.
Using a direct comparison to the US pricing of the same official peripherals it’s reasonable to assume that the actual pricing in the UK based on established peripheral pricing history SHOULD be around £29.99 for the Move controller (cheaper than a DS3) and £17.99 for the Subcontroller (same price as the Blu-ray remote).
Anything more than this and I will be very annoyed and disappointed with SCEE. Even the Euro pricing (which is usually higher compared to US/UK pricing anyway) has the Move controller at less than they pay for a DualShock 3. In the UK DS3’s cost £35 so Move needs to cost less then this otherwise SCEE are taking the piss when it comes to UK pricing. As for the Sub, from a manufacturing point of view comparing it to the cost of the £18 Blu-ray remote or Official headset is about right, it’s HALF a DualShock 3 that uses a fraction of the raw materials to produce, valuing it at just £5 less than a FULL DualShock 3 is ludicrous!
SCEE need to get their arses in gear and confirm the UK pricing…
Tuffcub
Your arguement that its “it’s HALF a DualShock 3” doesnt hold water, you are forgetting developement costs and more important, advertising costs. Dualshocks are not advertised. Move is. Someone has to pay for the adverts.
cc_star
Sony should, it’s their product… and they make a platform holders licence of around $10 per disc sold, so that argument holds no weight either
Apnomis
Fair enough, but explain to me why it’s the same price as a Blu-ray remote in the US yet the very same product is the price of nearly TWO Blu-ray remotes in the UK? It’s also roughly half the US cost of a DualShock 3 too for that matter…
The UK is being ripped off, and for that reason I will not be buying Move at launch…
Big Goose
@ Apnomis
Don’t forget though that the UK is tiny and the US/mainland Europre are huge so they can relax prices as there’s more customers but with the UK theres less so they’ll charge more.
Apnomis
@ Big Goose but we are a tiny market for PS3’s, Dualshock 3’s, SIXAXIS Controllers, Blu-ray remotes, Bluetooth Headsets, Street Fighter Joysticks etc etc and this is the first time SCEE have seen fit to charge a big premium on peripherals in the UK compared to the US pricing…

The UK is the 2nd biggest consumer of gaming products in the world, we have an infinately more competitive retail landscape than Europe and as a result we have the cheapest game prices around.
Accessories are the main profit spinners in the industry, console loose money, games make pennies per copy sold and accessories are at least 50% profit.
The UK is being a bit stiffed, particularly on the standalone pricing.
bunimomike
The UK is a great climate for gaming, agreed. I just want to feel that we’re not being well and truly shafted on price. People often jest about the £1:$1 ratio and it’s very rare to see it happen. Sadly, in this case, it seems to be close to the truth. Ouch!
Thinking about it some more, I’d be tempted to import.
Anth1888
I reckon its just placeholder for the controller and Sub – hangfire until we get ‘official’ pricing.
Cadabena
Regarding the sub as half a Dual Shock, does anyone know whether Sony are still letting you use a normal Dual Shock as a sub? I remember them saying you could last year, but can’t remember the exact quote.
smokeybeef
Yes, apparently you can. It says so on the official Sony (US) site: http://us.playstation.com/ps3/accessories/scph-98061.html
Last point under ‘Key Features’:
“Note- DUALSHOCK®3 wireless controller can be used in place of the navigation controller for all games that are compatible with the navigation controller “
Cadabena
Ah fantastic, that’s made me happy now. It’ll be much cheaper for people like me with 4 DS3s already who want to buy Moves for the mates to use.
smokeybeef
I imagine it being quite difficult holding a DS3 in one hand though. I know they are light, but it doesn’t quite have the same ergonomic one-hand design.
Lordfloyd
anybody know if we can use imported controllers? ie a US move will work on a PAL ps3?
Watchful
Can’t speak for the Moves, but I imported a DS3 from Hong Kong when they first came out and it works/worked fine with my PS3s (ex as in parrot and current Slim).

Man the price for you guys isn’t fair, i’m almost afraid to mention the fact that they aren’t giving you a full game along with it like the US bundle. :x

Armonster9000
Now I’m gonna feel really bad for them when I buy that lol.
simplebob
Anybody know whats on this starter disc? Sounds like the old PS1 demo discs you used to get with the console
smokeybeef
I read on the EU PS Blog it is a bunch of demos for Move games and some tutorial videos. The contents of the disc (demos) will be released on the PlayStation Store at launch too, so you aren’t missing anything if you don’t get the starter kit (assuming you already have a PSEye)
Ryan1991
Play.com have priced the Starter Pack at £49.99.
Ryan1991
Sorry. Missed the first paragraph due to my idiocy.
thevader
dont worry thesixthaxis i shall purchase all my product via your website from now on to help you =)
jimmy-google
Play.com will always guarentee the pre-order price. They can’t risk pricing it too low. I think some of these prices will drop when Sony finally announce the UK prices.
If you go to zavvi you can see the UK and EU price of accessories. The Euro price is always higher than the UK one. Play.com are just playing it safe so they don’t make a loss on each item.
As I already have games that will get a Move patch and a PSEye I’ll just pick up 2 move controllers at launch and maybe one new game.
tonycawley
It’s also not fair to say something costs x in us, therefore apply the currency conversion rate and it should cost y in another country. There are a lot of factors to consider when pricing a product in b country, such as average earnings in that country, vat in that country etc. I wouldn’t expect to go to a foreign country and see that everything has the same price as here. That’s just not the way the world works.
DannyFantango
I cannot believe you are the first person to state this.
Thank you!
Yeah, those prices in the US don’t include Tax, the county is much bigger and therefore has a bigger audience for buying these peripherals, and the UK has higher transport costs than most places.
I can’t believe people are whining about paying £5ish more.
BrendanCalls
Ive been researching prices on this and the one thing that is really annoying me it that I cant get a bundle of just the Move and Sub controllers.
I dont think the Move controller is too outrgeously priced at £39.99 but £29.99 for the sub controller is just taking the biscuit (its a jammy dodger too)
BrendanCalls
Also amazon have gone a wee bit cheaper at £28.99 for the Sub and £38.88 for the Move Controller
smokeybeef
I just noticed that too. 3% discount, anyone?
smokeybeef
Getting cheaper!
Zavvi
—–
Move: 37.95
Sub Controller: 27.95
BrendanCalls
If it keeps on at this rate, by Sept 15th it will all be free, LOL!!
smokeybeef
We just need a good ol’ fashion launch day supermarket war, with the shops taking a temporary hit so we can get them at half the price!
bunimomike
Hahaha! Asda will be giving them away with every box of Tampax what with Sony being a bunch of c… anyway. Teatime! :-)
