MCV are reporting that the next iteration of über-popular Final Fantasy will not be in our grubby non-elven hands until March 2011. That’s only if you’re after the PS3 version, of course, as the PC edition will hit September 22nd in Europe, shockingly allowing bedroom hermits to get the jump on their living-room counterparts by a full six months.
Interestingly, we also get our first glimpse of the game’s subscription-based pricing model. A return to the MMO format of Final Fantasy XI, XIV will cost RPGers £8.99/€12.99 per month, with new characters (of which you can have a maximum of eight per account) costing a further £2.10/€3.99 – once again on a monthly basis. Whether or not the PS3 model follows suit remains to be seen. Check out the link for some more details of the PC Collector’s Edition, including (but not limited to) a Final Fantasy “tumbler”. We’re assuming Batman is not included.
Finally, and something you MMO fiends will likely know all about, retainers (NPCs that hang around hocking your wares and generally complaining about your punk ass when you’re (briefly no doubt) offline) will cost £0.70/€1.00 after the first slave-labourer who comes gratis. Which is nice of them.

Welcome to the real world people. Actually, people are getting it earlier on PC, as it’s suppose to act as a beta at the same time I believe.

Not chuffed about paying monthly fees to play it. Infact it might even put me off playing it at all if those prices stick for the PS3 version.

I’m always slightly nervous when i start a new job and i’m 30. You’ll be fine after the first day. Kovac gave you some good advice there, pay attention!

Wait until you sit exams, driving tests, ask the girl of your dreams out, get the girl of your dreams naked, under-perform with the girl of your dreams, have your heart broken, have your heart broken AGAIN, apply for a university, apply for a mortgage, GET a mortgage, be made redundant, travel around the world seeing weird and interesting places, get chased around these weird and interesting places by a guy with one eye, get married, get someone pregnant, get the WRONG person pregnant, worry about your baby, worry about the fact that you’re losing your hair/teeth/ability to stay awake past 10pm.
Ahh … I wish I was 15. I was I was 15 FOREVER.

I have an interview tomorrow. Im nervous already and there is still 13 hours til it starts. 2 hours long. Thats 2 hours of red face, sweat pouring, mind numbing questions that will no doubt have me more exhausted than 14 days straight work itself.
Wish me luck folks.

@Kovaks You wouldnt believe how drunk i got when i got made redundant. The first thing I did was drink a litre of WKD in one go, followed by about 8 beers. The room spinning like hell i then drunk dialled…..thats one to add to the list. The apology in the morning! WOW!

Kovacs I’m not sure what you mean there, I’ve never under-performed with the girl of my dreams.
Also I never got her naked either.

You’re 15, they’re hardly going to ask you to negotiate a ceasefire between two warring factions or anything.
Turn up on time, be CLEAN, and – most importantly – be polite to your supervisors/bosses/overlords. You’ll do fine.
Good luck.
Also, try and build a respect for money early on. Sure, you have no responsibilities NOW, but you’ll be surprised how quickly that changes. If you start “throwing money away” now, you’ll find yourself as one of those 20 year olds with a nice car, sharp haircut and £/€50,000 in debt. And then you’ll have to work the streets to pay it off, especially after the meth habit kicks in and word around town is that Jimmy The Chin wants to see you, and – trust me – it ain’t no social visit he has planned. I’ve said too much.

Good luck with the job paulleeper2430 and Roy, I feel the same as you.

player stores? that is not good news, i have seen MMOs absolutely killed by thousands of players store making the cities a total nightmare to navigate.
just so they can sell shopkeeper npcs to players, or technically rent them out as you’ll probably have to pay monthly.
and is this gonna be like ffxi and only allow you a single character unless you pay for more slots?
suddenly i find myself losing interest in this title.
there’s still dcu online, of course, they haven’t said what game content they’ll be selling as microtransactions in that one.

Monthly fee?? Expected.
£9 per month?? Lower than I expected.
An extra £2 per month for extra characters??? :O unnecessary and a bit of a piss take in my opinion.

Do people seriously spend that kind of money per month on one game?! Seriously, I would never be up for paying a monthly fee for any online game!

It must be coming out on PS+ because PSN online gaming is free, isn’t it?.. ;b

online monthly fee paying has been the norm on PC for a very long time, though many of those titles either give you a few months “free” with the purchase or allow you to download the client for nothing. Betcha FFXIV is still at least £45.

Didn’t they say just the other day that it would be a “simultaneous launch”? What are the odds of them overcoming their little issue with MS and having a 360 version ready to roll out the same time as the PS3 version come March? Not that I begrudge that, but I wish they would just make their bloody minds up either way, instead of this “we have no plans, but we are still discussing” rubbish.

I think its a complete no-go as the red tape on XBL side of things prevents xbox consoles and computers intermingling online. Maybe it will be released on the 360 but with no connection to PC or PS3 gamers.

Is that something new to XBL for 360 as I think I remember one of the last gen iterations of Burnout allowing multiplayer between PC and Xbox? Wouldn’t surprise me though.

@Kovacs, Big question.
Are accounts and content transferable ? The game uses the same servers for PC and Ps3 so I could meet with a mate that plays with his lappy when I’m on my Ps3. Does that mean I could log onto a pc account via Playstation ?

Could start playing on pc if that was the case :D

Cross-platform play is possible. Whether characters are tied to the platform you started them on, I honestly don’t know.

Yeah you can do this. The same system is used in FFXI, so you can register an account on a PC but then buy the 360 version and log into your account.

Damn, as I currently only have an Intel Atom powered EeeBox with an nVidia ION graphical chipset (with which I’m absolutely happy) I’m going to have to wait for the PS3 release. I really hoped I could start off with everyone else…
