Speaking to Joystiq, Shuhei Yoshida, the President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, has said that the next game from the guys behind Warhawk should be revealed pretty soon. Admitting that developers Lightbox have been very busy, Yoshida said that he “was expecting that it’s about time we should update the status of what the team is doing.
“The team has been working on something new for a while,” he continued, “and I wouldn’t be surprised if are able to soon talk about it.”
“But not at this time,” he added.
Lightbox was formed in 2009 by former Incognito staff, including celebrated game designer Dylan Jobe, and is “engaged in a multi-year, multi-title partnership with Sony Computer Entertainment America developing games for the PlayStation family of platforms” suggesting whatever’s next for the team (Starhawk?) will be PS3 exclusive.

“working on something new” suggests that it won’t be starhawk :-/

I haven’t heard of a Starhawk game before. Therefore – new.

But it is a sequel to Warhawk. Therefore – not new.

if a developer makes a statement like that it normally means something new. not a sequal, something not related to their previous project. so maybe starhawk is ready to be released and now they are actually doin something new. eg. gurilla games made killzone 3 as soon as killzone 2 was released.they didnt say they have something new they said we made a sequal to killzone 2

but a sequel is still a new game, you could hardly call it ‘old’…

Yeah true but then it is pointless to use the word “new” because then anything they work on is new. It would be same as saying “they have been working on something for a while.”

New game can be a sequel.
New IP is something totally different.
Both are still new games

Yeah so when he says “something new” it might be either way but since he says “something new” and not “been working hard for a while” or something like that it suggests that it is a new IP. Look, it’s not like I wrote that it ISN’T Starhawk I merely stated that his phrasing suggests it.

Technically “Starhawk” (if that is what it will be called) IS something new, as it is a new IP.
Would you argue that the original PS3 Warhawk wasn’t something new because it was a kind of follow up to the PS1 original?

Would you say that the “rumoured” Starhawk isn’t a successor to Warhawk?

Played Warhawk at few times at my bros and it was an absolute riot. Never bought it as I felt I was coming to the realm too late, will get the new installment day one though….

Never have played warhawk. Like whoever it was above me said, feel it’s too late to start getting in on the action now. Got to say though this really isn’t news, a company saying they might release some information about something at some point.

A launch day purchase if ever I saw one.
I just hope it’s a PSN download, doesn’t have ranking up benefits and doesn’t do any kill streak perks… basically just Warhawk with new maps will do

I’d love some sort of xp reward system for this tbh.

It would ruin everything that makes Warhawk great and different IMO, everyone is on an equal footing whether you’ve played for over 500hrs (like me) or a n00b – the only differentiator is skill & knowledge… not the fact I get some über-weapon for putting the hours in.
there is nothing worse than joining online games and finding people have 50 times more weapons to choose from than you, can turn invisible and can make 50 sentries to boost their stats further.
Immediate accessibility to everything is different these days, every other game has rank up benefits – why follow the crowd?

Exactly – that sums up everything I hated about the Modern Warfare games…
In Warhawk, you get XP, badges, medals etc., but all they give you are new skins and paint jobs, not an unfair gaming advantage.

The kill streak rewards I could live without, but I would like some sort of persistent xp rewards. For me it gives me the drive to want to level, making me want to play more.
I get the idea behind ” a level playing field” but if i’ ve been playing for 500 hrs then I’m still going to be better than the person just starting. There is more to that than just having a bigger selection of weapons.

Agreed. Loved the simplicity of Warhawk, no ranking or kill streaks. Lets just all fight each other on equal grounds :)
