Cage Moving On From Heavy Rain

We’ve known Heavy Rain developers Quantic Dream were giving up on DLC for the game since E3, instead opting to spend their remaining time with the innovative but flawed adventure by building in Move support. But it appears studio head David Cage is already eyeing up what’s next for the team now its free from the constraints of Heavy Rain.

“Most of the team currently works on the next generation of technology and future concepts,” Cage told Eurogamer. “We plan to significantly improve the technology compared to Heavy Rain, continue to take risks and explore new grounds.

“Many people wondered why we were not ‘milking the cow’ after the success of Heavy Rain – why we were not creating a sequel for next Christmas. It may sound weird from the outside, but this is really not how I see my company. We genuinely try to be pioneers for this medium and discover new possibilities, which means taking more risks and not always giving people what they expect.”

Cage said he needs the “thrill” of a new idea, the need to fight and the need to “feel the danger”, which is presumably why he’s working on a new game called Horizon.  Except, according to him, he’s not.  “I don’t know where this information comes from,” he said, “but there is no project called Horizon featuring a couple in a science-fiction world currently in development at Quantic Dream.”

Oh.  Probably a code name then.

  1. Hopefully Heavy Rain just set the stage for further innovation in the industry. It was flawed, but it was also brilliant.

  2. what a bastard. i want my dlc, bloody conman

  3. I liked Heavy Rain alot, shame it didn’t get the DLC.

  4. Would much rather have DLC than bloody motion controls. Admittedly Heavy Rain is about one of the only games I would consider getting Move for, but if I had the choice, DLC please.

Looking forward to seeing what he comes up with next though.

    • I was contemplating writing something rather vitriolic but your comment sums up my feelings nicely.

  5. I want my scalps!

  6. I traded it in anyway but Heavy Rain was a brilliant experience.

    I’d definately play a sequel/psuedo sequel.

Great experience rather than a game I’d say though.

  7. Stupid man. We dont want another game. We want more of this one. Where’s my Scott Shelby and Norman Jayden!? Not happy.

  8. Does this make Cage the ultimate liar & conman then?

If he had anything to do with Microsoft, people would be queuing up on TSA to kick him in the virtual balls, probably 100 comments worth of people sticking the boot in!

    • spot on cc

    • If he had anything to do with Microsoft I don’t doubt also that some who hate on the guy would happily be defending him to the death under such circumstances too. Such is the nature of hypocrisy.

  9. Another Twisted Metal “No I’m not working on it” deal?

  10. I admire his honesty and the desire for him to keep on pushing limits and boundaries. Good for him for not getting stuck in a mind-numbing loop of DLC. Imagine that his new title is something wonderful. When playing it and looking back retrospectively, you’ll be happy he went in the direction he did.

    Ya whingeing slags! :-)
