The story so far: Tim Schafer from Brutal Legend developers Double Fine called Bob Kotick a ‘ dick’ who does not like games, Activision P.R. comes to the defence and insists Bob does like games, Sue is still fighting Mr. Schue over funds for the Cheerios and OMG, Kurt and Mercedes have kissed! And that’s what you missed last week, on Glee.
Tim has since responded to the Internet frenzy surrounding the news that he called Activision bigwig Kotick a naughty word. During his talk at this mornings Develop conference he said,
“That was an accident. I need to keep my mouth shut. I was going to change the title of my talk to ‘How to give interviews and remember to check the microphone is switched off’.”
“After the Eurogamer thing I realised I’m a little nervous about what I want to say. It’s shocking how you really can’t burn bridges in the industry. You start your own company and you don’t have to work for that jerky boss any more. Not naming names.”
A wise decision Tim. Calling people names is childish, and as the games world is such a small industry, you are bound to run in to Activision again. I hope you have learnt your lesson: Calling people names is a bad idea. The last thing you want to do is compare Bob to a tyrannical dictator intent on crushing the weak and ruling the universe.
“Then it’s like Empire Strikes Back – you walk in the room and holy shit! Darth Vader’s at the table! It’s such a small industry, you see the same people over and over again”
Doh!
