Prescient voodoo practitioner and sometimes industry analyst Michael Pachter believes Kinect is priced too high and will not threaten Wii’s waggle/wavy dominance. The chicken-bone interpreter said:
“The Kinect bundle costs only $100 more than the cost of a standalone console, so they can afford to sell Kinect for $100. The standalone price for Kinect is too high, and core gamers will be put off by the price. My bias is that most core gamers will wait, but that 5-10% will buy it. That suggests 2-4 million standalone units [sold].
“I don’t see a meaningful threat to the Wii at these prices. I think that both Kinect and Move are priced too high to spark the whole industry, but think that both will sell modestly well.”
With an exorbitant price and requiring six feet of room to operate in, Kinect has its work cut out for it if it’s going to hit that one BILLION dollars target.

No, that’s not how things like this work. My word.
“The standalone price for Kinect is too high, and core gamers will be put off by the price.”
Awesome. 99% of TSA readers said that too.

I know this has been said time and time again, but how can he actually have any influence anywhere? That’s obviously not how it works. What kind of qualifications has he got? Seriously?

by the law of averages he had to get one right sooner or later.
of course helen keller could see the price was too high so he’s not really showing much insight there.

im starting to get a bit annoyed with this pricing lark… its NOT for us!! MS dont care if people like us buy this crap, they want wii owners! they want to tempt wii owners over to a new way of gaming, with the option to do games in HD, download XBLA games, watch movies and maybe progress to buying disk based games. most likely we will see bundled lego games with kinect consoles by Christmas.
This is purely a device to get the casual markets cash into MS pockets… to back this up; 4GB 360 bundle. my mobile has more GB than that!?! so i’m guessing 4GB is there as its being targeted at causal wii owners, 4GB will be enough for a film and a few XBLA games.

He then theorized that blue is a colour, five is a number and q is a letter.

he then went out on a limb and predicted that in less than 24 hours time the sun will set and then some hours later, rise again.
i don’t know how he does it, he’s a modern day nostradamus.

The thing about Kinect is that, yes £130 (which is what GAME are seeling it at) is a large price and when you look at that compared to Move (where the start pack – Eye and Controller – costs £59.99) and the Wii it’s even worse. But then remember you only have to buy one camera. To play two player Move games (some of which require 2 controllers, others one controller one sub-controller) then you’re paying £60 for the starter £70 for two more controllers and £60 for two sub controllers. That’s almost £200.
The Wii sells one controller with a Motion Plus for £55 and a nunchuck for £18 so the price isn’t massivley out of line for a product you only need to purchase once and without future add-ons.
