Rumour: PS3 To Get A “Mass Effect” Announcement Today

Mass Effect 2, which grabbed a 10/10 review here on TheSixthAxis, has always been locked to the Xbox 360 and PC.  However, rumours are flying around this morning (starting here) which claim that a PS3 version of the series is due to be announced today.

Discussion on NeoGAF seems to suggest that at least one person knows of the game, which looks like it’ll have a new title (beginning with ‘G’ and possibly ‘Genesis’) but at the moment is understandably keeping tight lipped.

We’re hoping that whatever this turns out to be, if indeed there’s any truth to the rumours, will include the first Mass Effect game alongside the sequel, with hopefully some DLC thrown in for good measure.  It’ll also probably be multiformat.

Scrawl picked up on the rumours earlier, but look out for EA’s conference later (at 4pm CET) and we’ll be at Sony’s (at 6) so we’ll report back as soon as we can if anything’s mentioned during that particular presser.  If not, well, just get it for the 360, it’s great.

  1. Because this is Xbox 360 only, I’ve never really read or seen much about this game which means I don’t know what I’m missing. A good thing really as I can now get excited about it if this turns out to be true

    • This saga is one of the best to date, you should really play it, you dont need a 360, its on PC too!

      • I’ll wait and see if it’s on PS3 first

      • I bought a 360 for this, Alan Wake and Forza. Utterly fantastic (Oh, and some programming which I haven’t actually done much with but don’t tell the wife ;-). My only real disappointment has been Halo. I’ve either totally missed the point or it’s hugely over-rated.

      • I agree JustHonour, Halo is totally average average IMO, a bland generic shooter with above average fiction. And the enemies are like toys. Mass Effect on the other hand, is hand’s down the best sci-fi series in existence, truly incredible.

      • Halo is overrated, just like the Resistance franchise is. Don’t get me wrong, i liked both, but i’m sure had these titles been multiplatform instead of heavily promoted exclusives then they wouldn’t be help with the same regard that they are now.*

I’ve already played ME1 & 2 on 360, and since they use the save files from the previous game i’ll obviously be playing ME3 on 360, but i’m glad to see this coming to PS3 so that more people can experience it. Mass Effect and Uncharted are my 2 favorite single player franchises.

    • but shouldnt they also give the PS3 ME1 and ME2…seems odd to just jump into the story at the half way point?!?

  2. :-o Awesome!

I love Mass Effect!! Its one of my favourite Action RPG Series! I love the fact that you can carry over your save game from ME1 into ME2 and the decisions that you made in ME1 effects what happens in ME2. I’ve got it on Both 360 and PC and would buy it again on PS3 :)

  3. I’d really enjoy having these on PS3 but I think I would prefer some kind of ‘Mass Effect Trilogy/Saga’ boxset while the 3rd game is released (similar to God of War)

  4. don’t know much about it to be honest, good news for PS3 gamers though.

  5. The most tenuous of tenuous rumour. Bless you GAF for giving us potential news……

    • Indeed, and the first ME is published by Microsoft, so I highly doubt we’ll be seeing that on PS3 anytime soon anyway. The sequel (EA) maybe, but you really have to play the first one to get the most out of it.

      • MS published ME1 for 360 and EA pulished it for PC, so it’s quite possible for EA to release/publish it for PS3 as well.

  6. Oh pretty please let this be true

  7. Mass Effect is the one360 exclusive franchise that has tempted me to get a 360 so I hope there is some truth in this…

  8. Mass Effect is the only game that the 360 has that I am jealous of… The only one…. Hope it does come to PS3.

  9. Nearly tempted me to buy 1 to

  10. Sounds promising. Never played it or paid much attention to it because it’s 360 and my laptop wouldn’t run the pc version. Still there’s plenty of good stuff already out and on the horizon for me to be not too bothered one way or the other. I just really wish the exclusives would stop. I appreciate the arguement that they get the best out of a machine but exclusives just seem daft to me, i’m sure the developers generally don’t get enough money from either ms or sony to compensate for loss of sales on the other console.

Exclusives from first and second parties perfectly make sense. Though exclusives from third parties are the bane of existence.
