New TGS FFXIV Trailer is Glorious

They might have some issues finding the necessary RAM to make Final Fantasy XIV work on the PS3, but that hasn’t stopped Square Enix from knocking it out of the park when it comes to producing scintillating CGI for their upcoming Final Fantasy MMO. Check out this near-eight minute romp through the land of Eorzea released especially for this week’s Tokyo Games Show. If this doesn’t make you want to spend hundreds of hours grinding Chocobos, we don’t know what will.

The trailer also confirms a release date for the PS3 incarnation. Sun-hating troglodytes, we hope you have your Cheetos stockpiled for March 2011.

  1. I’ve been playing the beta and it does work quite well, my only issue is with the bland textures in real time and the incredible lag.
I will say it does have a great feel to it and I most definitely will be buying the ps3 version, hopefully with my beta character too !

  2. i will never play a game that charges a monthly fee.
i’ll have to wait to see what will happen in PS3 land :)

    • If you think that that will be free to play on PS3 you have a big (or not, it’s all down to perspective) surprise coming. (Unless the game itself costs an arm and a leg in the first place.)

  3. so is this a mmorpg? if so i may get it depending on monthly cost

  4. 8.99 a month isnt too bad i guess… ill have to stop playing world of warcraft

    • Like World of Warcraft they’re supposedly going to be giving discount for purchasing 3 or 6 month blocks. No idea how much though.

  5. Yowza! That is all :)

  6. Does look amazing, miles better than XIII, which I though wasn’t possible, want to play this, but don’t want to pay the monthly fee. It would mean that it would have to be the only game I play ever month I pay for the subscription!

  7. Looks amazing, I’m still unsure about paying subscription though.

  8. I’ll tell you what, Squeenix dont fuck around when it comes to FMV, i could watch an entire film like that!

    • try final fantasy advent children or the spirits within.

the spirits within is an underrated masterpiece in my opinion

      • Hmm i’ve seen the Sprits Within, and thought it was a incoherent mess…havn’t seen Advent Children mind ;-)

  9. ‘…and it was all a dream’

This looks phenomenal! I really wanna play it and I want to have the time to be dedicated to it but I don’t think I will. It wouldn’t matter if it wasn’t online but then it wouldn’t really be the same without it

  10. After a second watch I can’t get my head around how the story is going to be told as they are obviously the main characters, but as an online only game your not going to be allowed to be one of the main characters, so how’s your own created character going to fit into the main story and how will you build an attachment to them? Maybe I’m just missing something as I’ve never played an MMORPG before.

    • There is an overall story in the world which you will play certain related quests. I don’t believe that those characters are anyone in particular, rather the common adventurer (like yourself), and giving a view of what lies ahead in the world.
Of course it’s made out to be very grand using the FMV and all, but it’s representitive of events/the game.

i.e. you can play one of many races and classes (including showing cross class skills exampled by the Gladiator healing), pick up quests and party to fight monsters etc, all the meanwhile a larger story is going on.

      At least that’s my understanding.

      • Er… the quests are the plate card things they scatter on the table. (leves)
