ModNation Racers Goes Region Free

One (of a few) pet peeves we had with United Front Games’ ModNation Racers was its exclusionary practice of preventing gamers from different regions getting their race on together. There was some logic behind the madness, with the developers admitting that the xenophobic restriction was more due to how the game works; the need to build courses, mods and mod-mobiles and then deliver the mammoth of user-generated content to everyone involved somewhat tricky in the technology department. Restricting the streaming of assets to just people who were actually somewhat close to you more a performance decision than anything else.

They did admit that this area was something they were looking into, however, and lo and behold, by gum, they’ve cracked it.

ModNation Racers Update 1.4 does indeed now allow cross region invites. I feel a celebratory, one-world Meet coming on. I have to stop. I’m getting all misty.
