Resistance 3 Details Emerge

Subscribers to ‘Game Informer’ in the States have been receiving the latest issue with Resistance 3 on the cover.  Inside are some juicy new bites of information about the game for us to digest (don’t read if you have yet to finish Resistance 2):

  • Capelli (the protagonist) started a family with Susan (Hale’s Stepsister)
  • Malikov lives
  • They confirm 2-player co-op campaign (Capelli, Malikov, & John Harper [Capelli’s partner]) are key characters (but no alternate story co-op like R2)
  • One of the multiplayer maps is in an African Prison
  • Chimeran Plant Life (that explodes when shot) shows that the world is changing
  • New smarter AI (climb over walls, and through windows and stuff)
  • Long legs jumping from roof to roof shooting down at you
  • The Mutator: A new weapon that shoots biological mist that causes boils and stuff on the enemy and then makes them pop hurting the other nearby enemies. Secondary fire makes them go insane and attack their buddies
  • Other Weapons: Bullseye, Magnum, Shotgun, Auger, carbine are all back… and all weapons are upgradeable as you use them more and more. Weapons are also made to look more improvised so… grenades are shaped like food cans full of nails and such…
  • Insomniac wants to make online more organized and not a cluster like the 60 player matches in R2
  • Humans eating humans because of lack of food.

Sounds positively delightful; we can’t wait!

  1. Sounds great, love the series so can’t wait :)

  2. Bloody hell, Dan. That list reads so well! A real “end of the world, down and dirty fight to the death”. I simply can’t wait to see what they pull out of the bag.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first one and thought the sequel missed the boat somewhat. However, this sounds like a return to form and them taking the correct level of risk to deliver a great game as oppose to keeping stubborn fans happy with flogging the Hale story. Great character (in a way) but R2 did enough damage to it where I’m happy if we only find out about him in 3rd person.

    • couldnt agree more! sounds excellent

  3. i would like to know if they plan to end the storyline with this game.

  4. noooooooo :(

the gap between the line were you say “don’t read if you have yet to finish Resistance 2” and the rest is so small that… well, let’s say i now can’t unsee it :/

    • Self inflicted blunt force trauma may help. As a last desperate spoiler countermeasure we could keep hammers next to our PC’s with which to whack our temples. :D

  5. This is sounding great, the bit that really stands out is the improvised weapons, I really hope the game is like the recent trailer and is a more personal tale of survival rather than a big overblown army fest. A shame they have scrapped the separate online co-op, that was my favourite part of the second game.

    • Agreed, fella. I love the ramshackle approach of simply trying to survive. The biggest news, for me, is that co-op campaign is back.

I reckon they had plenty of stick over omitting that from the sequel. Plebs.

      • Hehe I read your post above after I had already posted mine and thought “Hmm, I’ve essentially posted exactly the same thing”! They got loads of grief for omitting it from the second game, but I really enjoyed the team co-op missions as well. As long as they keep split-screen online I will be happy, sometimes it is nice to play with real people!

    • Totally agree that R3 would be cool if done in a survival horror way. Something similar (in terms of tension) to the first AvP game (the Rebellion one) on the PC would be awesome! They firted with it briefly with the dark train yard level but I think they could have made more of it. The new angle on the story is setting this up nicely, hopefully it will set it’s self apart from the competition a bit more.

      • I didn’t spot this post, can I just say the dark train yard bit was AWESOME! I properly shat a brick playing it.

      • Don’t forget the part going through the hotel… I was so glad to see daylight.

  6. I would of thought if the co-op on R2 did well they would incorporate that into the new one as well.

I did miss local co-op as me and my girlfriend loved the first game so :)

    • I really hope they mean local coop. Online coop was ok, but nothing beats storyline coop.

  7. WOW JUST WOW :-)

  8. So the Chimera won then? And here I was hoping the 3rd game would send the troops to Russia to destroy the mothership and wipe them out for good…

On the plus side the dark reality of humans being on the brink of extinction scavenging for supplies as the planet is colonised sounds much more interesting!

  9. Wooh 2-player co-op campaign, disappointed the second didn’t have that… can’t wait! :P

    • Same here. The first was absolutely brilliant. I don’t think I have ever completed that on my own

  10. havent played any of these. too scared ;), the info makes this game sound wicked though. Humans eating humans ftw
