Polyphony Say GT 5 Delay Is Just 3 Days

Here’s some good news for everyone that’s still crying big fat tears after yesterday’s Gran Turismo 5 delay news – as far as Polyphony Digital are concerned, the delay’s just 3 days.

That’s according to Game Reactor, who cite one of their journalists currently at the Japanese developer’s studio who’s directly quoting Kazunori Yamauchi.

Of course, this is a 3 day delay in getting the game mastered and gold, and thus could well translate into a bigger delay to get the game pressed, duplicated, shipped, boxed and distributed, but it’s still looking incredibly likely to hit before Christmas unless further delays manifest.

Of course, three days could be just enough to build in – say – a newer firmware requirement…

  1. So long as it is before Christmas!

  2. by the heavens and mystical angels!! positve news of gran Turismo 5 (I guess)

  3. We need to blame hackers on this.. Pitchforks and flaming torches will amass on GeoHots door! Mark my words.

    • not GeoHot…

Ps groove/jailbreak are likely to be the cause…

potentially if they have gotten around the 3.42 security update sony are waiting for them to release their update so it can run on higher firmwares and then sony will code another security fix and shove it onto the GT5 disk so the big game over Christmas wont be playable by the hackers…

Thats my guess and gut feeling since the delay was announced…

      • Geohot started it :)

      • Not really, he was working on a completely different hack. You might as well blame Mitnick

      • The point is jailbreak’s been rendered useless by new firmware. I don’t remember how long it lasted, 2 weeks maybe…

      • I know, know Geohot claimed to hack it first which removed Other OS angering Linux fanboys, then another guy appeared from the shadow thus boom hack

  4. Luckily its not a good game which is being delayed ;)

    • Oh dear, you clearly posted on the wrong article and seem to have made quite a fool of yourself

    • Thats right, its an amazing one… or should i say, it better be!

    • *Sighs artard….

    • I saw the blink, forgave you

  5. 3 days! Hey everyone it’s only three days lets celebrate.

  6. But why would they have delayed to put 3.50 on disc? Requiring 3.42 like MoH would surely be enough:

Of course the bigger issue with a delay of only three days is that it will clash with NfS:HP again. :)

    • 3.50 might have stricter security.

      • 3.50 re-allowed certain non Sony peripherals dunnit? Like.. say.. steering wheels?

      • My steering wheel has never stopped working and i’ve used it on every firmware update of the last 2 months.

    • Because they are fudging licks

  7. I can live with 3 days if true. Doe’s that mean it will be realeased in shops on Monday or Tuesday rather than Friday? It does sound like its all to do with the 3.50 firmware update that been put in place to stop the PSJailbreak. What else will be in this 3.50 Firmware update as PS+ is supposed to have something special in November (cross game chat) would be nice but im being optimistic.

    • No, it means there’s 3 days more dev to be done. The delay to consumers could still be weeks.

      • what i don’t understand is that 3 days extra programming could be done with a few people doing a few over-time shifts these next few days and then then still make the final code going gold deadline… To have a nock on effect from coding, to the game being on the shelfs weeks late, smells like BS to me!!! Sony just want the release date closer to xmas so the can bundle it to consoles and improve figures of the period. I bet the Move didn’t sell as many PS3’s as they hoped, so GT5 will pick up the slack and make this quarter sales look better

      • well, that would just work if you assume they dont allready do extra shifts, mind!

      • Id hope not….if the main bulk of the team are still pulling late shifts this close to the release date, then PD have a serious time scheduling problem! 5th November is 3 weeks away… the very maximum amount of coding should be a few text amends or adding a few new images for the menus etc so it can go gold, stamped, packaged and shipped for the stores to shelf it close of business on 4th November?!?! If PD are doing ANY serious coding this close to the ‘solid’ release date, people need to be looking at getting sacked imo.

These 3 days, equaling to a few weeks are purely Sony closing the gap to xmas imo

      • It could be? *kills self*

  8. It’s probably like you said, too add in the firmware. However maybe the decision on Tuesday came from before PD was meant to start disc production, asked Sony if there were any problems, Sony says firmware. So maybe 3 days coding and QA, GT goes gold, we det it week later (I hope)

  9. It will be worth the wait my friends, mark my words….

  10. Why do you keep bringing that up? It would take about five minutes to replace the XMB update included on the disc.

    • Yes but it is likely they had already produced many of the disks ready to ship out being so close to the deadline. They may only need 5 minutes to put the firmware on the disk but they then have to start production all over again

    • What if the Firmware update brought more advanced features that a game could use, so lots of bits of the game need the code altering to use the new features (if that is the reason of course)
