We’ve been talking about this for a while, but today Polyphony Digtial has ‘fully revealed’ the “X1 Prototype”, the Red Bull Racing collaboration. Built on the concept of “what if?”, the X1 is the answer to “what would the fastest racing car on Earth, free of any and all regulations look like?”
“The results were thrilling. X1 is about evolution,” says Adrian Newey, Chief Technical Officer at Red Bull Racing. “Delivering the optimum combination of tested technologies in a single integrated design. This would be the future of racing were we not bound by regulations, but one that is achievable today.”
“Today thanks to PlayStation 3 and Gran Turismo we can test drive the future.”
Can we? Today? Well, it would have been next week, but we’re still waiting on that release date, guys. In the meantime, click the link below to watch the brand new video, which, by all accounts, is utterly fabulous (and there’s a rack of new screenshots too, which are well worth looking at).
Oh, and the specs of that game conquering car? 3 litre, 1483bhp. Zoom.

Wonder what the other teams in F1 would say if Red Bull rocked up at Brazil with that car for the last two races of the season! Would love to see Alonso’s face…. shame it will never be built for real!
Have to say i was very impressed with the detail the article went into, just shows that GT physics engine etc is very complex if such calculations as that can be achieved. I seem to remember that from GT4 the lap time you set in game is probably the same one you would set in real life… didn’t Clarkson do something like that in Top Gear once.

eeehm…. the Bugatti Veyron is even faster, so this isn’t the quickest machine on land.

Actually, the Veyron can do 260+ MPH once it’s delimited. This car can do over 280+ MPH on full power, so you’re wrong mate.

It’s also NOT “the fastest machine on land”. The ThrustSSC went supersonic, 763 mph (1,228 kmh).
