Assassin’s Creed II sold well, and by the sounds of it Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood will too, so it’s no surprise that Ubisoft wants to further the series.  During a financial briefing call yesterday it was reiterated that the overall goal was to make Assassin’s Creed a yearly franchise.  When asked about Assassin’s Creed III in 2011 Yves Guillemot, the CEO of Ubisoft, had the following to say:

“There will be something around Assassin’s.  That’s the only thing we can say.”

The first thing that springs to mind is DLC, or a portable spin off, but Ubi has supported AC II and Brotherhood with a wide variety of things, from comics to films.  We look forward to seeing what’s next.

  1. Yeah, probably DLC or maybe a spin-off, as Ubisoft have previously stated that there won’t be any AC3 in 2011.

    • Yeah I read that they weren’t doin a full title next year as well. They were going to give it a break so they could make the third one to the best of their ability. Hmmm…..

  2. To be honest, I’d rather they didn’t make it a yearly franchise and instead focus on making every instalment fantastic.

    • I’m with you, I hate how greedy developers are becoming, yearly franchises really don’t do it for me, as it’s often rushed to meet a deadline at the expense of the quality of the game.

      • I just can’t help but think that these franchises could be so much more if they spent more time developing them.

      • agreed. sounds more like yearly milking.

    • Totally agree. As much as I would love a new game every year it only takes one half arsed game to knock it of the rails and to never regain its former glory

    • agree, the last thing we need is another COD situation! AC is great, deserves time and effort, not being treated as a cash cow!

  3. I don’t think it’s possible to release a full assassins title every year. Sure sports games can do, but the odd tweak to the same game every year is easy to implement. With assassins, they have to build whole cities or multiple cities from scratch. The amount of research and design that want into ac2, surely it’s not possible to accomplish that in a year?

  5. So much for telling us it needs ‘time to breathe’

Brotherhood DLC is a certainty but a full game would just be going back on what they said, so it will be interesting to see what it is

  6. A 3DS game is listed on quite a few sites.

  7. Hope it doesn’t turn out to be the “new Call of Duty” I would really like to see a sequel to Prince of Persia 08 but not Assassin’s Creed can’t they wait?

  8. A new assassins creed being announced already wow. Hopefully this wont get delayed

  9. Reiterating the previous comments, i am not in favour of AC becoming a yearly franchise. I do however welcome webisodes, comics etc.

Surely some time must be spent on a proper plot, and further time spent on creating the amazing environments. Otherwise what would the series have to offer?
