9The concept of releasing patches after a game has released isn’t new – in fact, it’s something that’s continued to be a major factor of this current console generation. However, games that release two 130MB+ patches within 5 days of launch date are few and far between.
Whatever your thoughts on the matter – be they positive or otherwise – at least Polyphony’s patches are valuable, game improving ones.
The first activated online and brought a few UI tweaks (such as showing potential opponents for each race) and the second, which we mentioned earlier in the week, fixes the online mode’s main complaint: you can now set limits to the class of cars in online mode.
Great, but we shouldn’t have to dig around for this information. Sony, Polyphony, there’s no reason to not issue patch notes for this sort of patch.
In other news, the actual online servers were given a boost this morning at 3am (you might have been kicked off the online mode) as Polyphony boosted the capacity from the initial 500,000 users to a more suitable (but probably still a bit low) million.

This is one of the reasons i bought plus, for automatic downloading, im working until 3, so when i get home, the patch will be downloaded and installed ready for me to play! happy days

You *do* know it only checks every other day at tue time you specified, right? So worse case scenario is you PS3 checked 5 minutes before the patch came out, it won’t check again for another 48 hours ;)

You can set your PS3 to what time of day and how often you want it to connect and check for updates etc.

My reasoning behind ps+ was that i could receive exclusive content for games like this which are just for Ps3 n maybe discounts on other big titles. I get the feeling that unless it’s coming with the new month of subscription then we won’t be seeing much in the way of content for this game on ps+
P.S. My Ps3 updates everyday too as far as I’m aware too

“The auto download feature does require the PS3 to be on standbye and it checks for updates every two days. If you miss it one day then when it comes to update at that time in 2 days then it will download and install anything it missed the last time.”

Okies, I’ll remember that. I mean, I would never really know when it updates as I don’t exactly put it at a time when I’m there to see it happening. That would be a bit pointless

Like you said, good work releasing it so quick, but honestly it should’ve been there in the first place. I’ve not bought it yet, it was going to be a day 1 purchase, but i’m going to wait til christmas now. By then it should be the game it should’ve been on release.

I’ve been playing it since Tuesday and I can honestly say the only (minor) problems I experienced were on Wednesday. Since then it’s been fine. You shouldn’t wait, it’s the best driving game I’ve ever played, by a mile.

I dont mind them patching it late as long as they didnt push the release back and I have to agree with your point and say it is the best racing game I have ever played. Especially enjoyed the Top Gear VW Camper Van race.

I agree Jaffa, it would have been worse if they had kept delaying the game. At least now that its out they can keep updating it. This new patch improves it a lot & as long as they can keep updating it thwn I’m happy.

Have to say that last nights meet seemed pretty slick to me, no problems or confusion at all. Perhaps we were lucky.
I do think it’s a little suspicious that they are able to turn these out so fast but I’m not complaining.

Great stuff. I was supposed to be in the meet but we had a power cut n the modem played dead for some time after.
I think it’s good that the game is getting updated and fixed so soon although it’s worrying why a game that’s taken so long to finish was in need of such a fix! I’ve not tried my hand at online yet as that was meant to be last night but the only problems I’ve had were the connecting to server shinanigans – load time between screens was about 5 mins at some points! The way I have to hold R1 constantly so i can make out what the writing says – actually this is a plus point as it’s thoughtful for the people without HD :) and finally, the way I seem to not get gold :( lol.

Yeh it does seem slightly weird seeing as they took so long to release the game, but only days to release the patch. Probably knew of th eonline problems and had started developing it before release day.
On another note, call me thick but how on earth do you change the wee picture next tou your name. I hunted for an option but couldnt see it

you have to have taken a picture of a car in game and i think you just click on the picture on gt mode and pick the picture you want to use , i think thats right

The meet last night was epic! Was in crazy_del’s lounge with teflon, bax, icuy et al. Fiat 500s round an oval had us all crying with laughter!

the patch also activates the full damage system in arcade mode without having to get to level 20 in gt mode

im just happy that they are supporting the game and hope they continue to.
after all its their first release on the current-gen consoles (well, besides GT5P) and we have yet to see how they handle post-launch support. if we are really lucky, they keep adding stuff just like criterion did with burnout…
