Remember this little challenge the Need for Speed team issued us all with a couple of weeks ago? If their trailer hit one million views then everyone with a copy of NFS: Hot Pursuit would be getting some free DLC. Well, did we manage it?
“Oh, so close! The Need for Speed Hot Pursuit launch trailer didn’t quite make it to one million views.”
DAMN IT! Oh wait, there’s more:
“Our community still turned out an amazing performance. We’d like to thank you all for sharing the trailer with your friends and making sure that everybody knows that Need for Speed Hot Pursuit is the best, most intense (and VGA-winning!) racing game of the year. So, as an early holiday gift, we’ve decided to give the three convertibles for free to everyone playing Hot Pursuit. Look for them in an upcoming Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 title update (we’ll be sharing more PC news when it becomes available).”
Score! Just to reiterate, the cars we will be getting are as follows:

Does anybody know how many views it got? Still nice of EA to give away free stuff even though the target wasn’t reached!

At the moment it’s at 657,052: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82et_z_gTlg
It could have gotten only 300.000 and EA will still have released the cars :)

Cheers, I can’t get onto youtube at work to check. Yeah I guess they would have given it away, it was penned as free anyway!

I watched it, even though I don’t have the game, to help it reach the 1,000,000 mark.

In all seriousness, were EA ever really going to *not* give us these cars?
It was a marketing ploy, that’s all.
Having said that, I’m more thanhappy to take free dlc off their hands.
Also, the free iOS Autolog app is out today, so get downloading NFS:HotPants fans!

The funny thing is, the only people who were going to have any interest in viewing the video were those who had already bought the game so i’m not sure how good a marketing a move it was.
Great to have the free cars all the same.

True, but they were encouraging people to post it on facebook, pass it their friends etc…

Would EA of old given it away as free?

Probably. More than likely actually. The cars are available now and the update weighs in at 319mb (on PS3 anyway)

Who could see that coming? Now all I need is “Grubbins on Ice” and Christmas is saved.
