Gran Turismo 5 Hits 1.05

As if Polyphony hasn’t annoyed enough of us with massive installs, along comes another update for Gran Turismo 5, taking the game to version 1.05.

This time the patch size has jumped considerably, sitting at just over 600MB, and whilst there’s not yet a definitive changelog a few reports have emerged from those that have already downloaded the rather chunky update.

First up is the welcome option to switch off the HUD in-race – something that was a gripe from the beginning, especially as GT5’s heads up display takes up most of the screen real estate.

Elsewhere, there’s apparently the option to have mechanical damage in offline practise mode and a ‘grip reduction’ setting for wet tracks, and you can also rewind your replays – great for photo mode.

There’s also talk of the ability to back up your save game, although we’re hoping that they’re not transferrable from user to user, as there’s bound to be one central ‘master save’ with everything unlocked within the hour if that’s the case.

If there’s anything else we’ll update this post.

Update: Here is a list of changes the patch brings:

  • “[Seasonal Events] have been added to the upper left side of the [GT Mode] – [GT Life] screen. From here you can participate in official online events from the Polyphony Digital team.
In these events, all participants race under the same regulations, and if you complete the event you will win rewards and experience. In Time Trials and Drift Trials, compete on the leader boards with players around the world.
  • An [Online Dealership] has been added to the left center of the [GT Mode]-[GT Life] screen. In here you will find popular and rare used cars.  You might just come across that one car you’ve always been looking for, that you haven’t been able to find in the [Used Car Dealer]
  • Online Race Rewards and Experience
When you complete a race in the [Open Lobby] or [My Lounge], you will now gain rewards and experience points.
Therefore if you are focused more on playing online, you’ll still be able to gain rewards and levels that you need to progress in [GT Life].
  • Driving Distance and Number of Wins in Online Races
The driving distance and the number of wins you achieve when you complete a race in [Open Lobby] or [My Lounge] will now affect your stats in [Profile] and the [Garage].
Here again the results from your online play will c*mulate within [GT Life].
  • Improved Rewards
The rewards for winning races in both A-Spec and B-Spec in [GT Mode]-[GT Life] have been increased for a limited time only. (This applies until the end of January 2011)
This is a great chance for those who were previously having difficulties getting ahead in the game, due to a lack of funds for tuning and purchasing required cars.
  • Race Information Display
[Race Information Display] is now available in [Start]-[Quick Options]. (You can also see this in [Race Display] in [Options]).
  • Save Data Backup
You can now copy and restore your save data. For details, please refer to the in-game [Manual].
  • Personal BGM (Menu)
From [Options]-[Hardware]-[Audio], it is now possible to set the [Personal BGM] (Menu)]. (This can also be accessed from the [Music Library] within [GT Mode]).
  • Car Name Change
The official name of “Red Bull X1″ has been changed to “Red Bull X2010″.
  • Integration with the Website
The main features within [GT Mode]-[Community] can now also be accessed through the “gran-turismo.com” official website.
  • [Important Note:] * We have made improvements to the [Log] within [GT Mode]- [Community] section, in order to make its operation more stable. Please note that the information that was here before the update has been reset.”

Thanks, Dr Davros

  1. Glad the hud can be removed now. It doesn’t bother me too much but its a basic option and in the cockpit view its nice to be able to use (and see) the dials doing there well rendered job :)

    • Haha, Funny! TSA censors cockpit… Wonder if I can write pussycat…

      • It censored cumulate in the actual post as well.

  2. GTPlanet is a buzz with rumoured features ranging from Hello Kitty livery for the Nissan Micra to an Online dealership which might allow people to trade cars

    • Online dealership would be suweet!

      • This is a great idea, i think they did something simular on Midnight club where you could buy other peoples cars, was a great feature

  3. i’m gunna have to wait a couple of hours just coming to end of le mans 24 hour endurance on b spec can’t wait to find out what’s new

  4. Yea there has to be something a little more substantial than a few little tweaks , I love these constant updates as they keep making what was already an outstanding game into an even better one . My 640gb bad boy hoovers up these patches and updates . Only problem is that with the YLOD it takes me between 30-40 presses to turn the damn machine on !

  5. My copy which im getting saturday, how many patches will it need before i can play online? :/

    • 1, hopefully.

    • GT5 is being patched in a way that you’ll only ever need the latest patch. (So far) It’s an option available to devs, and has been previously seen with KZ2, where they eventually switched to this method for their final patch to the game.

      • thats good, and how long is the install?

      • Does that mean then that all the other patches following this, will also include this patch, and therefore be 600+mb in size?!

        I blumin hope not!

      • I’d expect it does.

      • 600mb didn’t really take long to download although I was playing Monster Hunter Tri that passed 2 hours of time…

So bigger patchs? bring it on!!

  6. Whilst an option to remove the HUD is a nice idea, it’s only mainly of use for those who use the metric system’s speed, those of us used to MPH are often faced with a KM/h speedo in the cars. It shouldn’t really be that hard to change the speedo along with the user settings.
Actually thinking about it, some cars have MPH speedo’s but the needle is programmed to display KM/h.

    • I’d say this is a bug, as in a lot of cars the needle doesn’t move past about 120mph due to being wrongly programmed to show kmph.

  7. Hmm Unfortunatly i lost my job when this game was released so was unsble to buy them game :( but my fiance has bought me this for christmas and im looking forward to jumpt into this!!! after the hour install but still better then DCUO 5 Long Hours!!

    • add about 15 to that and you have my dcou download time… It was horrible!

      • Haha so true lol.i put it on at 8 and never got to play til about 1 half one lol.but its a great game and the level of customisation is brilliant

  8. would love to have a customizble HUd and choose what I want on screen! Re-winds in replay is a great fix, that really should have been in there from the start. And if the online trading is true – thank you god, and polyphony, for listening to our needs!

I don’t mind the constant updates as long as they give us great additions like these! If they are true! Where’s the update list?

  9. Does anyone know if the patch downloading of plus got this or is it a enter game first patch….

    • Save data backup! :D

      • That was one of the most important things that needed changing. Imagine getting all the ‘Licences’ and ‘Special Event’ trophies then your PS3 dies. You would need to do them all again.
Like it says above, I hope they are not transferable.

    • Wow, some very nice improvements! Love that they’re introducing seasonal events, online dealership and online XP, especially. Installing the update at the very moment, will be fun to check these new features out.

      Thanks for the info!

    • Wow , great find . This now makes the game into gaming perfection . XP for online races and online time trial leaderboards plus Polyphony Events are what ive been after .
