DW7’s Weapon System In Action

Dynasty Warriors 7 launches in March and one of the features the developers, Omega Force, are highlighting is the revamped weapon system. In past instalments each playable character was designated their own iconic weapon, such as Guan Yu’s spear, Zhang Fei’s pike, and Sun Ce’s sorely missed tonfas; however in DW7 this tradition is being scrapped, allowing players to bring an additional weapon into battle which can be swapped at the press of a button.

From the screenshots below, there appears to be some additional tweaks and also limitations. Note how the weapons are gender-specified. Veterans of the series will recall equipping their manly custom-made warriors with female weapons only to see them prancing around the battlefield like horny schoolgirls; hopefully these weapons have been re-worked with appropriate animations for both sexes.

Another noticeable feature is that the game lets you swap out your weapons and even upgrade your character when in-game, as opposed to doing this in the mission-prep menus. Sure, these titbits will mean very little to those who aren’t acquainted with the series but for the fans who were bitterly disappointed in Dynasty Warriors 6, March couldn’t come soon enough.

  1. The whole weapon swapping thing from strikeforce was possibly it’s only redeeming feature, so I’m pretty pumped about DW7

  2. I wasn’t a big fan of SF, I think it’s the only DW game I’ve skimped on apart from the first PSP one. I like the sound of this feature, as I am someone who selects their character mainly based on their weapon.
