Starhawk Beta Outed?

It’s been a while since we’ve seen an image from unofficial sources which has leaked a previously unannounced game, but today a video has emerged which ‘shows’ someone on a friends list playing a ‘Starhawk Beta’.

If you have some salt, now may be a good time to take a huge pinch of it, because up until now no such game has been announced. All we know is that Dylan Jobe and other members of the Incognito team who created Warhawk set up a new development studio, Lightbox Interative to work on a PlayStation exclusive project, which in their words will appeal to hardcore Warhawk players and be accessible to newcomers.

Perhaps not so coincidently, around the same time Sony were found to have trademarked the name Starhawk.

The only other thing we know, that we can talk about, is that the team have been internally play-testing their project and delivering milestone builds to Sony for further testing.

Real, or real fake?

Anyway, on with today’s ‘leak’.  The image above is a capture from a video uploaded to the internet a couple of days ago. In our minds there are three possibilities; it’s real, it’s a video of a photoshop image or it’s a game running on a hacked PS3 which has had its filename altered.

Let us know in the comments below what you think of video, which you’ll have to hit the source link to check out, because embedding is disabled.

  1. Personally I think they are fake but even if they are true then it doesn’t really mean anything other than confirming the name is Starhawk and it is at the stage where it is ready for internal/public beta (which you could probably guess from Dylans tweets anyway).

Always good to see Starhawk news though, and im hoping for an announcement soon! Really cant wait for this game.

  2. Just watched the video, looks completely fake to me.

    • Yeah it has to be. With all the custom firmware going around now this becomes even less believable.

With custom firmware you can change the game info, so it’s possible that some person is “playing” Gran Turismo 12 right now.

I’d still hope to see something about Starhawk though at E3 with an early 2012 release.

  3. Sorry to start the comments off like this but the guy (in the video) is such a cock that I couldn’t make it passed ten seconds. Grade A tosser.

    • Thank god you said it i was surprised it wasn’t the first comment.

      • Sorry, I was typing with one hand. In the other was a copy of GT6.

      • I see I’ve been far too busy playing mohawk the sequel to starhawk with added hair.

    • Well done Bunimo, you’ve managed to restrain yourself to using the less offensive c-word. I personally would have used the other one.

  4. If it was a dev running a test build would they really use the real name? Would surely be more likely to use a codename, especially if the project is unannounced.

    • Closed betas usually have codenames. The Brink Beta runs as Project Ishmael for example.

      • Yeah alright we get it! You’ve got the Beta, good for you! Jerk.

      • Charming.

      • Sorry, I just really want to play Brink…

      • Ooooo niiiice! Presumably under NDA, but if I was to say “Do you love the Marmite or hate the Marmite” *cough*, what would you’re response be?

      • My response would be that I have never tasted Marmite, and even if I had tasted it for many, many hours in secret, I would have no opinion on it as, of course, it never happened and I would have no idea how it tastes.

Please take that red laser sight off my forehead now, Sony snipers.

      • Resistance 2 Beta was “Girl With A Stick” – never found why.

      • Yeah, odd, clusterfuck would have been more apt

  5. Just so you never have to make an article about someone playing an unannounced game on your friends list, you’ve been able to spoof game names since the PS3 became jailbroken :)

  6. I don’t care if it’s fake, if it an early April fools, if it’s tsa winding us up, or if it’s as real as jls are shit, I just love the chance to get excited about starhawk. I won’t sleep tonight.

    • *bites tongue*

      • sorry mate. i should be more sensitive to your love for all things JLS

  7. My bro used to play Warhawk religiously when it came out and it looked awesome. I never got it because I felt I was too late to try get into it, and this is also a reason why I havent picked MAG up.

Is it worth purchasing these games at such a late point?

I dont plan to miss this boat though….

    • yes buy it. it’s on the store for cheap so no time like the present.

gameplaywise it’s probably quite arcadey compared to MAG, COD, BFBC etc etc (i don’t know as i dont play fps)

you will spend a lot of time getting killed, and the ranking up takes forever

      but….

everyone is equal. whatever rank you are, the playing field is the same, no bonuses for being a higher rank other than a different coloured outfit.

there is a plethora of ways to play- be a pilot and own the skies, drive a tank, ride the jeep, snipe, lay mines, use an rpg, flamethower, call in air strikes, sneak around and knife your opponents, use a missle turret or machine gun turret…… basically you can play the game anyway you want. if you get bored of flying, then get on the ground, if you get bored of running for flags, join a zones game

the maps are massive, but they are also broken down into smaller versions. max players is 32, min is 8.

if you decide to buy it, then feel free to drop me a line and i’ll be happy to help show you the ropes

    • Yeah I’m exactly the same. Always wanted to try Warhawk but then Cod4 came out. I still always wanted to give Warhawk a go but just assumed that with it being out so long the servers would prob be empty.
