Superannuation has discovered a couple of interesting links on the ‘whois’ website. It appears that Microsoft has registered ‘Microsoft-Sony.com’ and ‘Sony-Microsoft.com’.
A new, cheeky marketing campaign? The other options are unthinkable…

‘Sony’ is a trademark, registering a domain which includes a trademark can see the domain registration nullified.
Wonder if this is something to do with PCs, maybe a new Vaio or something.

Would it be so bad if there was a ‘standard’ hardware config (cpu, gfx chip) with separate OS for each company?Saves on Hardware development and gives devs a single platform to create games on.

This could have to do with a lot of things outside of the gaming divisions, MS suggesting Sony TVs, or Microsoft having something to do with Sony laptops…. or even a Sony branded Win7 phone

Considering it was recently rumored that the PS4 would include Kinect-esque features, i have to think it could be a revelation that MS will work with Sony to create the PS4.
We know that Sony and MS can work together, Eg: VAIO computers using windows OS and of course MS are not afraid to use Sony TVs in their demonstrations http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSk5DhxQHLo&feature=player_embedded so, maybe?
Hell this could work out really well for both company’s.
the 360 seems to be leading itself towards a family friendly, cutesy motion controls lifestyle and the PlayStation is becoming more and more of a mature platform (with more exclusives which are not recommended for kids)
this would mean each console starts appealing to one demographic, whereas a PS4 (created by MS and Sony) would have the family charm of kinect and the mature shiver of Sonys main bad guy exclusive
its win win!
of course this could be nothing more then a joke or something much less serious so maybe we are just thinking too hard over this domain name.
(but still, the future looks bleak not matter who you are these days so really anything can happen)

As this was registered by Microsoft themselves, I expect it was done to protect them from spoof websites playing on the Microsoft / Song console war. Don’t forget you can register any domain names you like, even registered trademarks, it’s not illegal.

cross console gaming is highly improbable, unless both consoles have the exact same specs, which would be highly pointless
