Someone has managed to evade the Gamescom anti-spying systems and sneak out a video of the PS Vita’s user interface.
There isn’t a lot of new info, aside from the way the menus animate and the apparently unresponsive touchscreen. We would expect that issue to be ironed out long before the device is sent to store shelves (and it’s always difficult to tell how much is unresponsive touchscreen and how much is clumsy fingers).

There isn’t a lot to go on, and from the ending of this video we assume that people are being discouraged from filming.
What is there looks pretty and when the device is filled with apps and games it should take away a lot of the blank spaces too. Oh, and at one point the guy finds a reference to PSP software and ponders as to whether that means backward compatibility. We’ll see.

I realise what you are saying about potential clumsy fingers, but it really doens’t look too sensitive at all.

Looks more like the guy is trying to swipe in directions that don’t go anywhere most of the time. Looks as responsive as any decent phone or tablet device.
Jas-n
Definitely clumsy fingers, check how he completely misses the back button under settings.
Tuffcub
Also the screen is probably filthy from loads of people pawing it.

I feel cheap watching such a shody video that they broke the rules to get. :)
Looks ok – although I really like the XMB, so thought it might be more similar to that.
Finally, please could TSA stop posting so many new stories, it’s like you’re trolling the Home page and I can’t keep up! :p

I was also hoping for a XMB kind of OS.

I thought that it was well know that Vita would be backwards compatible with downloaded PSP games?
OS seems like its a long way off being finished with clumsy navigation and the guy at the end finding it hard to get out of the settings. presumably that’s why we haven’t seem much about it officially yet.
colmshan1990
Evidently not well known enough, but this has been confirmed numerous times by Sony.

I need to get my grubby mitts on one!

Don’t we all!

Definitely clumsy fingers. As you watch you’ll see the OS responding perfectly at times (why would it in some places but not others on the home menu), and other times (like when he’s in the settings and tries to press back) he completely misses the button.

Its very fast, interesting to see how the media will be done, music, video etc etc

This guy seems like he’s never used a touchscreen before, it definitely look to be more his fault rather than the OS itself.

The main “bubble” menu looks awful, like a memory card menu on an n64 or something.
And clumsy fingers or no, there are a couple of times in there where it looks both unresponsive and very little intuitive.
I think it’s time to start spending my NGP funds on beer and toffees.

He has probably never used a touchscreen before. He was missing the buttons almost every single time and he was shaking so he was probably nervous. I understand it’s hard to use a touchscreen whilst showing somebody as well, just try and use a touchscreen phone from an angle, trust me, it’s very hard.
The guy at the end seems to know how to use a touchscreen properly though. :L
BTW, PSP backwards compatibility has already been confirmed numerous times, I first heard of it back when it was unveiled for the very first time. What I’m wondering though, is whether or not the Vita will have any internal storage at all, since there was a 4GB card in there to hold everything. D:
colmshan1990
There’s no internal storage, that was confirmed too.

I wish we could choose between this touch interface and the XMB. I like the XMB
