Sony’s Weird New 3D Visor

I had to check the date on this. You can never be too sure that you haven’t mistakenly slipped through a temporal anomaly and found yourself back in 1991. With Sony sending around images like the one below, I’m still trying to load up Teletext to get the exact time right on my Casio calculator watch.

Sony is going to sell these, in Japan initially but we’ll keep our fingers crossed for US and EU releases. It’s a 3D display, which is roughly equivalent to a huge 750 inch screen, that hangs off your ears and nose. It displays in HD at 720p and includes 5.1 channel surround sound headphones. So, you put it on your face for total, huge 3D, booming 5.1 total immersion. You probably won’t even hear the rest of the world laughing at you.

The price works out to be around the £500 mark, after a rough conversion, which is a small price to pay to look like you’re preparing to meet the GamesMaster.

  3. I had a hard time trying to figure out if this is something you but on your head or something you sit in.
    Luckily I can do more than just looking at pictures.

    That would mean you could walk to the toilet while in the middle of an online match. Ofcourse you’d need a walking stick.

    • A walking stick wouldn’t be the first thing on my mind in that circumstance!

      A funnel maybe?

    • It took me while before I understood. I prefer to sit, so no need for a funnel there. =P

    • Looks like there’s a fixed-cable sticking out from the rear above one of the earpieces.

  6. Rough conversion = £500, so expect £600+ for us lucky UK peeps.

    As much as I want this, I can’t justify the cost and I won’t even entertain the thought until I know it’s compatible with the PS4.

  8. How heavy is that thing?

    • hopefully not as heavy as the old virtual reality headsets that used to be in arcades, I remember just about being able to hold my head up.

    • Looks like it uses both a headband and a back-strap to hold it in place, so probably too heavy to be comfortable or practical for any extended time although i’m not saying i still wouldn’t like to try it out.. :)

    • Nope, this device does the opposite – it blinds you to your surroundings. ;)
