Meet the Reader: BIGAL-1992

I will look harder, I’ll find someone who’s played some complete and utter dross for next week… Speaking of which, how did you come to stumble across TheSixthAxis? Were you hunting for google-whacks?

I could be wrong on this, but I think I found out about TSA when I was looking up reviews for Dead Space. Obviously, the site’s more attempt’s to have a community that encouraged valid discussions rather than active fanyboy wars convinced me to stay.

Fanyboy? That typo is totally staying in.

Ah yeah, typos. My pet hate.

You should have written ‘hat’ instead of ‘hate’ there. For comedic effect.

Very amusing. For the record, it’s a medical condition I have.

Would you be happy to explain a little further?

I’ve made a mention of it before on the site, but to those who are unaware of it, I suffer from a mild form of dyspraxia, which mainly affects the nerves in my hands and arms. As demonstrated earlier, I regularly make typos without realising them, because I’m usually looking at the keyboard rather then the screen, as I can’t be sure I’m actually typing the word correctly. Put simply, when I’m typing mid-sentence, my mind has moved on to the next word while I’m still typing the word on screen, which has made for some amusing errors.

Thanks for explaining, as when I talk to people online, I just generally assume they’re 18-20 year old, right handed males from the south of England, until told otherwise. My generalisations are inevitably very wrong most of the time.

You’re not the first one to think I’m English.

But you are right handed?

Yep.

Well, I can accept being partially wrong! Anyway, back to stroking TSA’s collective ego. Which of all the regular or semi-regular front page features on TSA do you like the best?

The time-travelling microwave was on of my favourite’s of the front page, and also the WeView feature, I think was a stroke of genius.

And have there been any competitions on TSA that have caught your eye and stood out from the hundreds of others that we’ve run?

Usually there’s quite a few competitions that catch my eye, only to find out I can’t enter as it’s UK only.

We are fairly often limited on where we can offer prizes, unfortunately. You mentioned the community of TSA being part of why you stuck around here. Since you’ve been around for a while, would there be any TSA members that you’d actually not mind meeting in real life?

To be honest; there so many regular on TSA that I’d love to meet, just to see what they’re like away from TSA.

Perhaps a few of them might be fairly normal people!

I’d hope so if I was going to meet them.

Very true! When you strip away the gaming and incessant refreshing of TSA’s homepage for the next sliver of gaming news, what do you do with your free time?

Normally I like to sit down and unwind by listening to a bit of music or maybe watch a program on TV, as my usual week consists of me either having gotten back from college, or as it’s been the case over the last two months, work at a bottling factory. I also like to do a bit of reading, especially the A Song of Ice and Fire series.

So many tangents to follow from that answer… I think I’ll go in reverse order. What have you thought of A Song of Ice and Fire? Have you seen the TV series, and that compare well?

Ironically, it was the TV series that got me interested in the series. Actually, it’d be safe to say if you’ve watched the TV series, the books will be very similar. So far I’m reading the second book, A Clash of Kings, and it is really good. The way the story pans out and the thought that the main characters could be dead next really does make for great reading.

[drop]

I think it’s actually gone that way around, watching TV, then reading the books, for quiet a few people. I know A Game of Thrones is next on my list of books to read. Well, that or Price and Prejudice and Zombies. Next question, what do you get to bottle at the factory?

I usually stack the pallets. Normally I’m standing at the end of the line and myself and another person will have to stack it up in a certain pattern, depending on the product. However, I’ll be finishing up next week to return to college.

This reverse order lark has worked perfectly! Do you mind sharing what you’re studying at college with us?

I’m currently studying Computer Games Development. So what was my original interest will end up being my job. Should be fun, provided everything works out ok.

You’re heading into your second year, is it? How has the first gone?

Yep, I’m going into my second year. The first year was challenging, to say the least, and Christ was it hard! But I got through it in the end, so onwards towards Year 2.

Well I, and I’m sure everyone else, hope you make TSA proud!

I’ll see if I can sneak in a TSA easter egg if I’m developing a game somewhere.

Do it! Well, that’s me all out of questions once again. Do you have any final words to your adoring fans?

I’ve had a great time talking with quite a few people here before in the past on TSA and something I hope will continue onwards into the future. And the thought I might have fans here slightly disturbs me somewhat.

  1. My 15 mins of fame has arrived! Feel free to mock THAT image of me.

  2. Are you from the cover of brink?

    • Curses, you beat me on saying it first.
      Nice interview though.

    • Unless I’ve suddenly sprouted dreadlocks and got a tan and tatts to go with it, not really.

  3. Good interview :)
Dunno why, but from generally reading ur comments over the time I have been visiting SixthAxis, I had you pegged as older.
Love the “looter” photo btw ;P

    • Perhaps you thought he was 18-20, right handed and from the South of England? :P

    • Fun fact: Ever since I was 13, people thought I was an adult.

      • Even despite the ‘1992’ in the username.

      • I wonder how old people think I am, and where am I from?

  4. nice interview :) laughed at your pic and the caption. You are one of the few people who didnt come across TSA through trophy lists and ps store updates :P

    • I’ve never been much of a trophy person, so news was going to be the only way I found tsa.

  5. Haha, nice to see the photo’s gone down a treat.

  6. 92! Shit I was 12, smoking and drinking with my home boys and our hot chicks then….seems so alien when master system and nes arent mentioned as first gaming steps.

    Great read bigal.

    Fs.

    • Lol, I still think of myself as a youngster too.
The I read when people say “I was born in 92” and I think “Ahh a kid” but they aren’t…they are 20 yrs old and I am breaching 30 :P

    • Shit, I’m exactly the same! 12 in ’92… but not the smoking and drinking and the chicks and the home boys… I lived in a small village where people still point at the moon and cars. But apart from that, exactly the same!

      • Well that explains a few things… ;)

    • How wonderful Britain was then…..

  7. Interesting read, nice to know you

  8. Nice interview. Always good to learn more about my fellow TSA’ers.

  9. That was a good interview. I remember the Big Al dinosaur episode from back when I was infatuated with dinosaurs (actualy, I guess I still am…)! Good luck on your studies!

  10. That was a great read! And I’m so sorry Bigal but I can’t help but pronounce your name as Bi-Gal instead of Big-Al. Which makes for a different image in my head entirely :’).

    • You have got to draw a picture of that. Would make for some hilarious reactions in the general chat forum.
