With the launch of F1 2011 just days away, Codemasters has released the launch trailer. We reviewed the game last week, and whilst it certainly is impressive, those who bought F1 2010 may get a feeling of Déjà vu.

could this be any slower or more epic?

Spectacular!
Love the way the suspension seems to react just like you see when watching F1 live, hopefully it feels like it too.
My only complaint are some low res textures on some parts of the cars, and (only relevant to this trailer) the tyres seems to be spinning WAY to fast relative to the rest of the slow-mo action.
OneDown
I noticed that about the wheels too but thought it might just be me.
tatoemonkey
you will notice at one point there is one tyre not moving at all and the rest of the car is about 1.38 ish
SpikeyMikey23
hahahaha the renault!
tatoemonkey
yeah its mmore like 1.33 though sorry
Harm Rehal
The reason why the Right/Front wheel stops moving is because the driver has slammed on the brakes and locked the wheel. Watch it again and you see it clearly, there’s no error made from Codemasters.
JesseDeya
@tatoemonkey: yes, as Harm Rehal says this is just a front tyre lock up and is actually a good thing to have modelled. I’m not talking about that, I’m taking about the fact that with cars motioned slowed down that much, you can normally very clearly make out the fine detail on the surface of the tyre. In this trailer, the wheels seem to still be spinning 2 or 3 times faster than they should be.
It’s not a game breaker by any stretch, but slightly a slightly distracting annoyance for fans used to watching real F1 cars in slow-mo.
david24
its clearly just a lock up and should be in the game. and i don’t think the wheels are spining to fast, they look about right for the speed.
JesseDeya
@david24
You know, you’re actually right. I checked out some youtube (assuming I would be right – fail) and it turns out the wheels really do seem to rotate that fast in slow-mo.
I think the reason I think it looks odd is because of the texture on the game wheels, it makes it seems much faster than irl, where the tyre is smoother. This clip shows it…

Woah, some people have far too much time on their hands.
Harm Rehal
True to a certain extent. :P
OneDown
Looks like theyve gone for the ‘Ooohh, arrrr’ moody approach this time round.

The trailer was on the official F1 site yesterday.
It’s looking pretty good.
Harm Rehal
Very nice indeed. No complaints from me:P
tatoemonkey
not a fan of driving games but for some reason am hooked on f1 love it waiting by the front door for it :)

This is epic

I have to feel sorry for Codies Birmingham……adding the new tyres, safety car and all the balancing of DRS and KERS must have taken a huge effort. Yet, the general feeling is it’s too similar to F1 2010. It’s not like FIFA where the rules of football remain broadly the same each year so they can focus on gameplay, F1 is a constantly moving goalpost which they have to keep up with and THEN also improve upon last year.
JesseDeya
The general feeling? By whom?
tom_lord
The TSA & OPM reviews, plus a few others that I can’t remember. It still gets good scores, but every one I’ve read said it perhaps isn’t enough improved…
jcor
The reviews I’ve read have actually said the handling is quite different from last year. A lot more realistic than last year’s game.

Awesome trailer, love the HRT spinning with “this could be you” on the side. Quality.

Great trailer. I want the game, but financially others are taking priority, this will have to wait.
