Meet the Reader: JamboGT

I’ve got some with laces. Most are with Velcro.

I have gone with slip-ons.

You can get toe shoes with laces…

Was about to ask about the toe shoes, I don’t think I could get them.

Do you have webbed toes?

My toes wouldn’t work with them. Not webbed, just very tiny little toes. Actually not that tiny maybe, but not big.

I’m sure they’d be fine, really.

Hmmm, I just don’t imagine it working out for me.

You should find a shop that stocks them, and try some on. I’ll send you some appropriate socks. Peter loves the ones I got him for his birthday!

My birthday has already passed?

True, but a) you’ll presumably have more birthdays, b) there are other gift giving holdidays and c) do I really need an excuse?

All of the above? It could be a congrats on the new job thing!

I like the word ‘holdidays’. Quite fun to say.

They’re days where I hold things.

Every days a holdiday!

I like the lack of apostrophe.

Ahh, so it has come to this…

The end game is nigh.

Tension has just ramped up massively hasn’t it?

Yeah. Screw you! No, that’s mean. Gosh, we aren’t half rambling…

Yeah, but you are a bit mean, and so am I so it’s all cool. Tangential conversations

Did we get to where you are now with games consoles?

Not quite, just to the PS1. I will continue!

Ah, did you stick with the Sony brand? Or have you diversified a bit?

Oh I am a bit of a whore, when the PS2 came around I got it the day Gran Turismo 3 released, along with F1 2001. That generation I also had the Xbox and a Gamecube, a few GBAs, and a PSP.

Got an Xbox 360 when they released, got another when it broke, got another when that one broke, replaced that when it broke, tried one more time when it broke and then gave up, since by then the PS3 had come out. I did have a Wii on two occasions, but they were both sold on after a while. I am admittedly a bit of a Sony fanboy, mainly due to Gran Turismo, but I am happy to play everything. A good game is a good game no matter what system it is on.

At the moment I have the PS3 and my decent enough PC.

That’s a lot of 360s!

I was just unlucky, I think. I did keep them dust free and well ventilated.

Of my local friends has gone through four and the other five, as well, so it wasn’t just me. They have the slim though, which is nice.

The early ones had huge issues with breaking…  Definitely. OK! So we’re up to date now. I guess the answer to this might be easy to guess, but what is your favourite game of all time?

It sounds like it would be easy, but it isn’t…

Is it not Gran Turismo or WipEout?

I have a favourite series, but favourite game is something else. I think I would go with GT3 for my favourite game at the time, it was astounding. So much time put into it.

See, I would’ve guess GT3.

GT3 is probably the last game in the series to live up to the hype, mainly because due to the much lower proliferation of the internet, there wasn’t much. I only found out it was out the week it came out. What a glorious week.

That does sound awesome, just a lovely surprise release. Wish we could still get those, despite all the pre-announced announcements… Is GT also your favourite game series?

Yeah it really is, saying that despite the big love of racing games I do play pretty much everything, and always have. I really like RPGs, I enjoy shooters, and love puzzle games. I always come back to racing games, though.

Which does lead me to what my next question was going to be: what is your favourite non-racing game?

That is a much trickier question… Knights of the Old Republic on the Xbox was a fantastic game. I didn’t get to play it till I was home for Christmas the year it came out, then spent most of that holiday in my room, on my own being terribly antisocial and having a great time!

Honourable mentions to Mickey Mouse Castle of Illusion, SSX Tricky, the Ace Combat series and C&C Red Alert Retaliation too.

KOTOR was one of the last RPGs I really played. It was really rather good! I played it on Mac.

I got it on Steam a while back and the controls seem so weird to me, I have to say. Did you use the standard controls or plug in a pad?

Keyboard and mouse. I’ve no idea anymore what the controls were like.

Oh, in the gaming hardware bit I built the PC for Star Wars: The Old Republic, by the way. If it wasn’t for that I probably would still not have a PC capable of gaming really

How are you enjoying SWTOR?

I am not hugely experienced in MMOs, only have a bit of time on World of Warcraft and DC Universe Online, but I have to say I enjoy it a lot. All my time playing has been spent with friends talking on Skype and we run around with lightsabers or blasters killing things, you can’t go wrong with that!

My subscription has been stopped for now though as I probably won’t have my PC for a month at least now though.

Haha. I’m going to leave in your silly repetition.

Please don’y!

I really am struggling to type.

Haha! That was intentional, wasn’t it?

Sadly no.

It’s alright, I’ll clean it up.

My keyboard is on my knee and it slipped a little, that’s my excuse anyway. I will stop babbling now.

Haha. This is going to be long… Very long. I always like to ask people what the most embarrassing game they’ve played is?

That’s what she said!

Um, I have no idea what my most embarrassing game is. I’m really drawing a blank, there have been many, I’m sure of that. I just can’t think of them. I am getting old.

Been around the block so many times, they’ve all blurred together?

Maybe I am just not easily embarrassed?

There are no games I play just for trophies or anything silly like that. Oh, probably Just Dance, though that was fun as well. Always good to be able to take the piss out of yourself, you just have to ham it up in those occasions.

Self-deprecating humour at its best!

Alright then, what games are you looking forward to from the rest of this year?

I have been trying really hard to not look too far forward this year, maybe leave some surprises for a change!

Saying that I am looking forward to the F1 2012 game of course.

Naturally! It’s taken us a while to get here, but how did you first stumble across TSA?

I’m not finished answering! Starhawk is pretty great from the beta, Dragon’s Dogma looks interesting too. Oh, Borderlands 2, too.

You sounded like you’d finished! Is that for this year?

Yeah 18th September, it seems.

    • Haha. That’s pretty special, dude. ;)

    • I’m surprised because the accents to me was a huge difference, especially Teflons as it was very Northern Irishish Hehe :p

    • Thanks on both counts! Was hilarious to do, can tell you that much!

Been a busy day between finishing packing and saying goodbyes, busy and a bit sad too!

  5. Originally, i was going to impersonate Tef and the Irishman with a shotgun(Phil) would be impersonating Jambo. But Phil being Phil broke his PC (something to do with pornographic potatoes and guns wearing bikinis) so this is what Tef and Jambo managed to salvage.

    • I swear down your constantly taking kush.

    • So that’s why there was the random messages on twitter Steven! I had to ask Tef on Steam what the hell you were on about! :P
      @Yiddo Yep, that’s Steven for ya! :D

      • Actually, i wanted to scar you for life thus handing complete control of the round ups over to me. :P

  6. Nice interview Jambo, making driving games for a living must be a dream come true!

  7. Great MTR guys! Congrats on the new Job, nice to meet you!

  8. Another great MTR.
    Good luck for the new job (in the best city in the country). Oh, can you ask your new boss to release the next NASCAR game here, or even just in Newcastle :-}

    • On PS3 its region free at least, think they want it out here too, depends on publisher maybe.

      • Gonna get it from Amazon when my trade-ins are processed, but it’s still about £40. If it had been released here it would be cheaper by know, except I would have bought it on release.

  9. DHL is a delivery company, not to be confused with my rival business…THL

    • If DHL competes with Yodel, then do you, THL, compete with Crazy_Del? :P

  10. And there was me thinking your name was like because you’re a Jambo!
(aka a Hearts of Midlothian fan)
