Lost Planet 3 Confirmed With New Developer

I’ll be honest, I thought Lost Planet 2 was a little bit rubbish. It focussed on looking and playing like a multiplayer shooter, even in single player, and as a result the narrative kind of got away from them a little bit. That would probably have been eminently forgivable if the gameplay had been anything more than very unremarkably average. It was entertaining to play online though, especially with a few familiar PSN or XBLA names around you.

Capcom obviously weren’t exactly elated with the end result either, as they’ve just announced a third game in the series but they’ve switched developers to Spark Unlimited. Those are the guys who previously made the decidedly below average Legendary and Turning Point: Fall of Liberty. They’re currently aiming to have the next Lost Planet game ready for a 2013 release date.

Edit: Capcom has asked us to remove the trailer until 16:00, when, hopefully we’ll be able to get a better quality look at the unveiling.

  1. A perfect fit for a awful game series.

  2. Hang on I thought Bulletstorm 2 had been cancelled?

  3. This is going to be a fail methinks

  4. I enjoyed parts of Lost Planet 2, only when there were big boss fights and the like. When it switched from attacking the aliens (forgot their name in the game) I lost interest and traded it in.

But hopefully this can provide bigger and more boss battles.

  5. Oh dear, can’t imagine this will end up being very good, which is a shame as I thoroughly enjoyed part1 on the 360.

  6. Great trailer, the game prob wont live up to it!

  7. ….right. Well. I think I’ll wait and see what happens, but I’m not going to have my expectation set on this pairing.

  8. Why is this becoming a trend among publishers? Have a good franchise, or maybe a bad game, and then hand it off to an awful developer? Just like Sony with Sly 4…

  9. Loved the first, wasn’t exactly gushing with praise for the second. By the looks of things, if Spark Unlimited are making the next, won’t be happy with the third either :(

  10. I really, really hope Spark show that they can make a good game. Jesus they might be doing Battlefront 3 as well lest us forget :(
