CCP: Vita Could Be Sub-Controller For DUST 514

The latest edition of the official PlayStation Blogcast, hosted by Jeff Rubenstein and Nick Suttner, features a section in which CCP Games’ David Reid briefly discusses the DUST 514 Vita app.

We’ve known for a while now that the handheld download wouldn’t be a full-blown port of the massive online shooter, standing in as an on-the-go companion. Though in the following statement, Reid suggests that, over time, the app may become more integrated within the game:

Our first steps will be cohort apps – the idea of taking a certain amount of the [game’s] admin on the go. But the opportunity is massive in terms of what could be on that screen while you’re playing DUST 514.

It’s unlikely that the Vita will actually stand in as a secondary controller, though we do see possibilities of it being used an additional interface. For instance, it could display maps, stats, or even be us to set waypoints and call in tactical strikes via the touchscreen.

Be sure to check in later for another glimpse at DUST 514 in one of our featured articles.

  1. “the opportunity is massive”, well I hope you’re not all PR talk and actually do something great with this “masssive ooportunity”

    • I’m still waiting to use my PSP as a wing mirror in F1 2007

      • Ditto, mine’s been glued to the top of the telly in preparation for 4 years. Its starting to look stupid.

  2. DUST 514 is starting to sound brilliant, the way everything connects together. It will be like MAG on steroids!

    • Or even MAG on… asteroids!

      • genius. ^_^

        where’d that vote button go?

  3. at some point, one company has got to say they’ll do something like this, and then actually do it.

unlike all the other times this kind of thing has been talked about with the psp.
