Halo 4 Confirmed For November 6th Release

Microsoft has just confirmed that Halo 4 will release on November 6th worldwide.  Phil Spencer, corporate vice president of Microsoft Studios, said:

“We are beginning a new saga with ‘Halo 4’ and embarking on a journey that will encompass the next decade of ‘Halo’ games and experiences.

Millions of fans worldwide have been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to step back into the boots of Master Chief, and with ‘Halo 4’ leading the charge, we’re confident 2012 will be the most successful year in Xbox history.”

Halo 4 is set four years after the conclusion of Halo 3, with the return of Master Chief who must face an enemy that threatens the whole universe.  Halo 4 is being developed by 343 Industries after Bungie stepped back from the franchise.

The Halo franchise has sold more than 40 million games worldwide as well as having spin off books, comics and other merchandise. When Halo 3 launched it set the record for biggest consumer product launch of all time.

  1. What happened to 3 being the last ever Halo, never making another one ever lalalala not listening?!

    • They literally never said that. They said in Halo 3 you’d finish the fight and you did.

      • I must have dreamt it.

      • I think a lot of people took “Finish the fight” as “This will be the last one”. There’s other stories to be told in the universe though.

      • Bungie said Reach would be their last and people took that to mean /the/ last briefly but they quickly dispelled that by setting up a company specifically to handle Halo!

      • The ending of Halo 3 pretty much gave it away that a Halo 4 would be made.

    • There’s always going to be another Halo when people have money to spend.

    • This is actually big enough that it would have a chartable effect on election turnout. That would be a really cool study for someone to do.

    • Yeah that’s COD week. Very interesting as COD always sells more on Xbox, wonder if it will dent the sales.

  6. Hmm, seems a duff week for Xbox to release their major/only exclusive this year. With Call of Duty and MOH out around that time I can’t help but feel it would have suited a September release date like Reach did

  7. I can’t wait! This is my most anticipated game of 2012! It’d be interesting to see how it fares against COD on the Xbox.

  8. I can understand the need for more money but surely another game on the same creaky old engine isnt whats called for?
    Halo 4 as a launch title for the new Box along with the usual truckload of hype and buildup could have been seriously damaging to the other console makers.

    • I think it’s using the Reach engine which was very heavily overhauled, from what I understand barely the same engine again.

      • Each Halo game has been built on the same engine (other than Wars), but with each game the engine has been radically changed, so as halbpro said it’s barely the same engine. It’s nice playing something fresh that wasn’t exactly the same as its predecessor.

      • I do think it would have been a good game to kick off the new console, but I guess they didn’t want to leave it too lond as people might forget.

      • In my opinion, a franchise doesn’t become milked until they start running out of ideas and the quality begins to decline.

    • Don’t worry, they’ll have Halo 56 ready for the next Xbox

      • Yes, and God of War 56 will be ready for the PS4. Sorry but it’s how the games industry works these days. Find something popular and milk, milk, milk :P

      • That is true but I do believe that Halo has and will be milked a lot more.

  9. Can’t say I’m looking for to it. The Halo universe has just never appealed to me despite clearing the original trilogy.

  10. Loved the first 2 Halo games but i think the series went stale! a demo/open beta may change my opinion though

    • Unfortunately 343i don’t have plans for a beta, as they would prefer to put more time and effort into the full game.
