It’s not every week that there’s a new Call of Duty trailer to talk about. It just seems like it. I joke, of course. We were all actually surprisingly positive about the Black Ops II trailer when it cropped up alongside Notch’s Indie Games outburst at EA and the Elder Scrolls Online in this week’s news section.
[drop2]We had plenty to talk about this week, with everyone except Lewis having been to see Marvel Avengers Assemble (that’s really what they called it in the UK). We avoided spoilers so don’t worry, nobody reveals the Hulk’s twenty minute soliloquy on the savagery of man in the modern age.We discussed Ghost Recon Future Soldier and how it will give an early look at some of the tech Black Ops II is making a big deal about. Then we talked about the first The Walking Dead episode and how that series is delivered. We also talked about Futurlab’s Velocity, which Kev thinks is brilliant.
Kris talked a bit about the Smallville comic and then I got to do my best to talk about The Cabin in the Woods without spoiling the whole thing. I’m sure I managed it. Finally, Lewis told us about The Rum Diary film before we did our usual quiz (from Kris this week) and some questions.

“On this week’s podcast you can expect a bit of this….
A sprinkling of that….
And a dash of the other…”
This weeks seems to have no highlights!
colossalblue
uh oh… we might have got a version without the extra soundy bits that they sprinkle on.
ashw92
There wasn’t a big enough pause for a soundbite and the news music was there so it wasn’t like the last time the extra sound stuff was missing. Just think it was a small oversight
halbpro
Yes it was an oversight cause I’m a tit.

Cheers for the mention guys. FYI there’s four of us full time. We hired freelance contractors for large and small production tasks, totalling 16 people :)

Good listen

i always like taking a companion around in skyrim, mostly for their prodigious carrying capacity. ^_^
because they’re not really that good in combat.
i played the Walking Dead demo, it took a while to get used to the way it played, the zombie fights gave me a bit of trouble at first, but then i figured them out.
if they put out a disc version of the finished season i’ll definitely buy it.
i knew Ghost Recon was Warfighter, because i wondered what the difference was between an advanced warfighter and a future soldier.
an advanced fighter of war is pretty much a future soldier, isn’t it? o_O
i’d like to read the Smallville comic, maybe if you only watched the early season you won’t have seen it but they built up quite a bit of mythology in that universe.
they introduced quite a few other DC heroes and villains, there was also a lot of history of heroes in the Smallville universe.
there was the JSA, Hawkman turned up, and Doctor Fate.
J’onn J’onzz has also been around for a few seasons now.
i nearly finished watching season 8 and i’ve got season 9 waiting, that’s where the whole Justice League thing starts building.
the two main Justice League characters not to appear are Batman and Wonder Woman.
i understand there are rights issues with Batman, because they wanted to introduce a young Bruce Wayne earlier in the series but they said Batman would be a separate license.
maybe the same issue prevents Wonder Woman
also i’d love to see a comic book continuation of the Heroes series.
i think they could do some great stories without the limitations of a tv budget.
i think Tezuka Osamu, creator of Astro Boy, may not have been one of the first Manga creators but he’s definitely one of the most influential.
he pretty much created the big eyed style nearly all manga and anime uses now.
for great anime, anything by Studio Ghibli and you can’t go wrong.
if you want something really, kinda depressingly, sad, see Grave of the Fireflies.
the most harrowing war film you’ll ever see, and it doesn’t feature any soldeirs.
for something a bit, well a lot, lighter in tone, go see My Neighbour Totoro.
a fantastic film, full of the joys of childhood, that’s where the Ghibli mascot came from.
it also features the legendary catbus..
i think i hheard somewhere that there’s a Ghibli theme park in japan that features a catbus ride.
if there’s one thing i really to do before i die, it’s ride the catbus.
^_^
i’d love to get a catbus plushie, i already have Totoro.
that reminds me, i always wanted to get a plushie of that rabbit/spaceship thing from the Tenchi Muyo series, Ryo Ohki.
that thing was soooo cute.
