Activision’s Financials Show Decline, But Still “Better Than Expected”

Activision’s quarterly financials are in, and they show a decline year on year from $1.45 billion in revenue in the first three months of 2011 to $1.17 billion this year. However, projections were lower than that, at $965 million, so the actual (GAAP) results have lead the publisher to call them “better than expected”.

For the same period, revenue from digital channels represented 27% of the total, but overall the revenue per (diluted) share price has dropped from $0.42 to $0.33.

Activision kindly sent over a list of ‘highlights’ for the year, which include some impressive figures: 40 million monthly active users of the Call of Duty franchise, with more than 1.6 billion hours of online gameplay for the latest in the series as of March 31st.

10 million gamers have registered for Call of Duty Elite, and there are currently more than two million premium annual members.

If you include accessory packs and figures, Skylanders was the third best selling game overall in North America and Europe, and the number one best selling kids’ game.

  1. Ugh. Call of Duty as a series has to be one of the most boring, stale and utterly tiresome games I’ve ever played. Besides when playing with friends in private matches, I don’t think I’ve picked up my copy of MW2 since I bought it a month ago.

  2. 21% decline
Think that’s in line with the industry as a whole, they’ll be very pleased to have 2m premium subscribers to Elite… retaining all the PS3 subscribers may be challenging next time if MS & Acti renew their arrangement.

    • Seems a pretty rough deal to be paying £40 (?) a year for the service then having to wait another month still. HA!

      • “a pretty rough deal”? Nope.
I’m getting all the DLC included in the sub, so it works out cheaper than it would if I were to buy it all separately as it came out.
The Acti-MS partnership is a bit of a pain, but now the DLC season is truly under-way, I’m not too bothered, at the end of the day we’re still getting new content every month. Although I agree with CC about them having difficulty with PS3 users if they renew the contract.

  3. 40 million monthly active users is insane. Good to see Elite doing well, but I doubt I’ll be re-subbing next year as I can’t be 100% sure I will enjoy Blops 2’s MP.

  4. If COD dies so does Activison, they release some cr*p games, all their games are 600p or sub HD. Lazy and cr*p developers.

    • Nah they have Blizzard to prop them up. WoW, starcraft/Diablo.

The worst and the best of the industry married as one imo :)

Speaking of which Diablo 3 in 6 days yea baby.

      • I just want West and Zampalla to win the lawsuit and take the Infinity Ward and all it’s games with them, ie COD.
        Leave Activision to rot!
