Rumour: Black Ops II To Feature “10 Point” Multiplayer Weapon Storage System

According to a rather assured leak over on NeoGAF, Activision’s next Call of Duty game will feature a “10 point” weapon allocation system, which will dramatically change the way loadouts and perks are managed, with many comments suggesting that it’s for the best.

For this year’s Black Ops II, players will find themselves with a limited storage space, which will feature ten empty slots. The system will replace the standard primary / secondary / grenade choices with something akin to that from Resident Evil, with bigger guns taking up more slots.

The leak says that guns, attachments, equipment and perks all take up allocation points. You could – for example – carry two primary weapons and just one perk, or no weapons and lots of perks (and hope to grab something on the battlefield).

We obviously can’t confirm any of this, having not had chance to see the game for ourselves, but it does sound like an interesting take for a franchise that relies so heavily on its multiplayer support. Let’s hope that the community gets behind these sweeping changes.

If, indeed, it’s true.

  1. Sounds good, I rarely use a secondary weapon on CoD.
Saying that, I am so bored of Yawn of Duty now, doubt I will get this.

  2. Really don’t like the sound of this, didn’t like the way Treyarch tried to introduce COD Points for buying guns and attachments and I doubt I’ll like this either.

    • I guess it depends on the maps for me – MW3 is mainly CQ so if SMGs take up less space, there will be even less point in having Assault Rifles and LMGs, which will be a shame, as people using SMGs will also have more space for Perks/Attachments and be more overpowered.
Oh, and I fully agree on the CoD Points system – it was crap, as were the Challenge & Barracks menus, and the custom emblem creator.

      • Its the only innovation in COD that I’ve liked. I enjoyed creating my own emblem, and using cod points to buy stuff. Also using cod points in wager matches were fun.

I went back to CoD4 yesterday and it makes every call of duty since that look like a pile of shit.

      • Each to their own I guess ;)

Yeah CoD4 is excellent. I actually played a bit of MW2 multiplayer over the weekend which I think is still better than MW3. I have put very little time into MW3 – I think it’s a combination of me getting bored, and I think it’s the worst in the series so far (multiplayer wise).

I’m not sure what to make of this new custom class system, but I will probably buy this for the single player and Zombies!

      • Yep, personally Blops MP, even though it was bad with connection issues, is the MP i’ve most enjoyed out of the games since 4. Still dont think they are any good.

So far i’ve played about 3 hours of MW3 MP, even that. yet to complete the single player as well. Lost interest in the series and military shooters as a whole tbh.

      • Yeah, I know what you mean. I seem to be enjoying more SP games these days. MP games seem to either suffer from exploits, glitches, connection problems, or people being wankers.

      • The last one especially in some games!

  3. Sounds good to me.

When MW2 launched, the amount of gear you could pile onto your multiplayer character was ridiculous and as a result I was turned off the entire series.

  4. I think this sounds ok, if its executed well :/

@gazzagb: I agree completely. Much preferred the MW2 system where you had to work with the gun and put time and effort into completing the challenges. Really made the Mastery tags feel special.

@Jim Hargreaves: I thought MW2 customisation was great. Had you played CoD multiplayer before or was that your first experience, because I’m pretty sure the customisation has been similar (ie. LOTS of attachments) since CoD 4 :/

    • Agreed regarding MW2, you had to get a lot of kills to become a “specialist” with any particular weapon. In MW3 you only need a handful of kills to unlock the next attachment – same with the Perks (when you consider what was required for SitRep Pro and Cold Blooded Pro in MW2). There is no real challenge for me in MW3 so I don’t play it much.

  5. Personally i hope they dial back on the amount of options 4 weapons & killstreaks because mw2 & 3 i ended up trying 2 many different classes & perks. The result being i couldn’t decide which worked 4 me, plus i was a bit shit at the game anyway. Another thing about killstreaks, they make me camp when i get 1 kill off a reward & scared of dying – rather than trying 2 get the kill. Much prefer Battlefield with no killstreaks

    • I love the combinations of guns and attachments, that’s what enables me to find which load out suits me best, depending on which map and gamemode. You’ve just got to experiment really.
And use the Support killstreaks on MW3. Your kills carry over, so there’s no need to camp or worry about dying and having to start again. The Escort Carepackage (18 kills) is the best from that killstreak, 5 care packages protected by an osprey, and you just need a total of 18 kills… not hard, especially in the longer games like Dom.

  6. COD just keeps on getting worse every year! One things for sure, this game will suck so bad on the PS3 as it’s one of the worst developers ever, Treyarch.

  7. I like the way Treyarch tweak stuff. IMO Infinity Ward only favour a ‘rich get richer’ approach & as such I find their efforts an unbalanced cluster-fuck.

  8. Wasn’t this confirmed at E3 already? I’m sure I heard exactly this during E3.

  9. Making changes: great.

But I find this to be the ultimate excuse for not worrying about balance. It may be:
Player: “Come on. That weapons kills in one shot and has infinite range!”
Treyarch: “But it uses three slots, so it’s balanced”

No, I don’t have any trust in them. xD

  10. I wish they’d start with the basics, eg sound. The weapons all sound similar & tinny in BOPS & the explosions are as painful on the eardrums, as scraping your nails on an old school blackboard. I say this as the E3 demo of B2, demos same sound & when RPG is used against mech, same skin crawling explosion sound. World at War, has similar issues. I’ve seen movies from the 70s with better sound effects.
MW1 mp had great gameplay(better sound,) without streaks & basic attachments, so it can work that way, although i also enjoy variety of attachments, but ease off the streak perks.
