Sony have announced that an optional, incremental update for the PS3’s firmware will be out soon. It might even be out now – being optional means that it wasn’t enforced and I didn’t fancy watching the console crawl towards a new version first thing this morning.
System Software 4.21, as its affectionately known at Sony HQ, “improves software stability”, suggesting that it’s specifically for one or two games that didn’t play nicely with the last update, the amusingly drug referencing 4.20.
Well, not that amusing.

Didn’t you know about 4.20 being a drug? The consoles take it all off the time. Mine is a bloody 4.20 addict and refuses to work unless i give it 4.20. Unless Nofi means the other 4.20 which he created and sells. ;)

There has been some freezing of games recently that I’ve found but nothing out of the ordinary, so any additional firmware update to combat this problem however minimal, is very welcome by me and it’ll be updated on my PS3 on next boot!!

I don’t understand this animosity towards system updates.
Refusing to update your system is like turning down Windows Update just because it steals five minutes of your precious time. I know you guys have a shitty broadband network in the UK, but it’s still not an excuse to compromise the stability and perf of your machine. Every bit of optimization is always good to get.
