PS3 Super Slim (CECH-4000) Concept Shows Top Loading Design

[drop2]This image, courtesy of ‘Graphics Horse’ over on GAF, is part of a series of mock-ups of what the new ‘super slim‘ PS3 might look like, using the label positioning artwork as a basis.

To be fair, they actually look hugely convincing, especially given that the latest firmware (or, at least, 4.20) indicated that we might be seeing a new disk loading method.

The base section matches the FCC filing, and the notches in the black and white PDF sit where the LEDs are in the mock-up, so everything that’s in the design doc is at least copied over to these concept illustrations by the artist.

You can see the whole set here on GAF.

  1. looks like a PS2 with a curved design, think i will stick with my Slim until it dies which could be soon with the freezing all the time.

  2. something like that would have been handy on the launch model, so i could get my Fallout 3 disc out when the console YLODed, without having to dismantle the bloody thing.

  3. Oh yay! The reincarnation of the PS2 Slim, For The Win!
I honestly can’t wait for this model, especially since my PS3 just coincidently got the YLOD, so I may as well get this (hopefully it gets announced and released before 18th July, when I buy my replacement PS3).

    I’m guessing it’d be a GamesCom-type announcement, so I’m wondering when that is…

    • Unfortunately, i don’t think this is likely to be released within the week. If at all.

Remember that the pics are mock ups & whilst convincing, shouldn’t be taken as gospel.

      • Good Point, well at least we can hope. :-)

  4. LOL (Very Confused).

  5. I still have a Phat PS3, it might die soon so I’ve been wanting for a new PS3 for a while just haven’t seen the point of it though. Top loader is alright heck my Playstation was like that even Dreamcast so don’t mind.

They should just screw current owners and add exclusive features… like built in Littlebigplanet 2.5 or lights on the logo and a 1tb SSD or something with games Sony music (vai, Satriani etc etc michael jackson, Spider-man?) all at £159 and a new Dualshock with quad sticks for immersive control.

Sorry that was nonsense, it won’t happen again.

    • Wtf? why is this out of place o.O

  6. Corned Beef!

(sorry, just wanted to get involved)

  7. it might be thinner, but its also uglier…..YUCK !
