Microsoft Claim Xbox 360 Will Be Best Selling Console Of The Year

In October.

Forza Horizon, out this week, and Halo 4 will mark the 360's big core titles for 2012.
A bullish, tricky to verify claim of being the best selling console of the year with three months still to go? That must be Microsoft, then, who have today informed CVG that the 360 will top everything else in 2012 in the UK, including the Nintendo Wii and Sony’s PlayStation 3.

What isn’t that difficult to confirm though, is that from January to September that claim is true. According to GFK Chart-Track data, the 360 has outsold the rest for the first three quarters.

According to product manager for Xbox Live Pawan Bhardwaj, the company is “very, very confident” that they’ll ‘win’ the battle over Sony and Nintendo.

“The data we have is for the January to September period, but I can absolutely assure you that the Xbox 360 will be the best-selling console for the calendar year,” said Bhardwaj.

Chart-Track confirmed that they’ve given Microsoft the data for the nine months so far, but haven’t yet announced who’s been the top selling. Mainly, as you can imagine, we’ve still got a few weeks left. “We will reveal the year’s best-selling hardware when the year is over,” they said.

Sony aren’t lying down, though. UK boss Fergal Gara recently said that Sony “see ourselves well positioned for the casual market who won’t buy Wii U on day one,” pointing to the revised PS3 model and the imminent release of Wonderbook.

Just kidding, but well done for them. I’ll stick to my PS3 though.

Ah, good on them. That’s very impressive when some of us might’ve been thinking “Sony will have this one stitched up” this year. Obviously not. :-)

Unless of course the Wii U turns out to be popular, no-one really knows what its sales will be like

It’s not exactly the best time to buy 360

If COD is 360’s most online played game, then you have to wonder why are there A LOT more people on PS3 playing MW3 and Blops.
    Maybe in US.

LOL M$ are trolls. PS3 has been outselling the 360 for many years now and has been outselling it in 2012. Hell, even the 3DS has been outselling the 360 recently. In 2012, PS3 has owned 45% of the market share. The 360 is like the Titanic, its sinking but some people won’t leave because they need to pretend they made the right choice.
