SEGA have just released a brand new trailer for Aliens: Colonial Marines. The video, which contains lots of action and hints at what might be going on in the story, at least captures the atmosphere of the movie – the sounds in particular are spot on and the aliens (and guns) look great.
We’re hoping to get our hands on the game very soon, but failing that the game’s out next month and will hopefully, finally, satisfy life-long Aliens fans with a game that lives up the film.
In the meantime, check our detailed hands-on preview and interview with the team behind the game, which highlights some of the multiplayer aspects along with our general thoughts on the adaptation. Hopefully Gearbox can carry the momentum into the full game.
The Von Braun
Yet another trailer that just seems to suggest Gearbox have totally failed to grasp what is essential for an Aliens game-The A.I routines of the Aliens themselves!.
In at around1:10 on that video, with a marine holding an Alien at bay? way to fecking go..in one foul swoop you’ve removed the feeling of being up again’st an almost unstoppable foe, that not only has the numbers, but has the speed, strength and agility to tear through you and your gung-ho squad.
So far only Rebellions original PC AVP (Windows’95) has managed to capture the essential essence of going toe-to-toe with the Xeno’s.Alien Trilogy on PS1 had them milling about, Rebellions last AVP had you being able to bat a xeno away with a rifle but etc.
Where’s the feeling of fear, of sheer dread as you approach an area, if you just know the Xenos are waiting for you to cross that invisible line, then the A.I will tell them to attack, you room clear, rinse and repeat.
I want to feel that i’m being hunted, the death is a mere heartbeat away, can happen anywhere, anytime, i want…Drake! We are leaving!!!!!!! :-)
Sadly what i’ve seen here just says scripted events, cutscenes and only really worth bothering with in terms of MP.
Can no-one do a decent Aliens (or indeed Predator) single player game anymore?
