Podcast: Episode 97 - Guacamelee!, Badland, Silver Linings and Trance

Lots of movie stuff this week, but some great games too.

All four of your regular podcasters were present and correct this week. Well, present, at least. I’m not sure we’ve ever been all that correct about anything.

We started off with a bit of news, even though things have been generally quiet this week, we managed to talk some rubbish about Adam Orth leaving Microsoft and Ubisoft’s Digital Days event, which saw teflon post some excellent hands on articles and a preview of the loony-looking Blood Dragon.

We then moved on to talk about what we’ve been doing this week. I played and reviewed Guacamelee! and then played it some more. Kev has been playing Lord of the Rings: War in the North, too, and as a fan of the fiction, he’s quite enjoying it. Lewis has been playing an odd iOS game called Badland too, which is lovely.

Kris watched the new G.I. Joe film and, because it’s dreadful and Kris likes terrible films, he loved it. I watched Silver Linings Playbook, Kev watched Beasts of the Southern Wild and Lewis told us all about Danny Boyle’s latest, Trance.

Then we did a quiz, based on positions in the Kama Sutra, obviously. Finally, we closed the show with your questions, which we always enjoy answering. There was entirely too much time given over to food this week, and if we make you hungry, we’re (not really) sorry.

  • Please send us questions via email to podcasts[at]thesixthaxis.com.
  • You can also tag your questions on Twitter with #tsacast and, provided you’re not on a private account, we’ll see them in our search each week. Finally, as usual, there’s a questions thread in the forum.

This podcast features strong language, jokes in poor taste and adult themes, if you’re offended by that then we recommend that you don’t listen to it at all.

  • As usual, you can grab the MP3 file here (right click to download).
  • You might want to get it (when the RSS catches us) on the RSS feed, here.
  • Or we’re on iTunes, when iTunes feels like updating. You can also leave us a review and subscribe there, if you want to be particularly lovely.

Kris, did you just see GI Joe because it was directed by Jon M Chu, director of a couple of the Step Up films.

    “flock of flying hedgehogs”
a phrase i never expected to ever hear. ^_^

one of the only problems i had with the COH character creator was that you didn’t get any capes till something like level 20.
a superhero game where you can’t have a cape? not at the start anyway.
    not cool.
    great game too.
i swear i got addicted to that game for like a year when it first launched.

i think i’d like to see Darth Maul movie.
cool as Fett is, i’d rather see a badass sith warrior with a double ended lightsaber.

Fett has been in a hell of a lot of the extended universe material, he survived the Sarlacc if you didn’t know.

there hasn’t been so much of Maul, though there was a great story where he, or some version of him, it was never explained where he came from, fought Vader.

Vader was losing, he couldn’t keep up with Maul, but he finally beat Maul by impaling himself and Maul who was behind him about to deliver a killing blow.

Maul asked him who he hated that much that he could defeat him, and Vader replies, “myself”
cool fight scenes in that one.

they have brought Maul back in the Clone Wars series, from what i’ve seen he’s been given a mechanical lower half.
and he’s after Obiwan, as you can imagine.

anyway, more of Ray Park doing his martial arts stuff, hell yeah.

i really hope Terraria doesn’t end up the same as CS:GO, however you pronounce it. ^_^

Nice podcast again. Two more to go till 100 ^^. About the character creation modes in games: does anyone remember character creation in the first Tony Hawk Undergound game? I played it on a PC and it was the first game where I saw an option to take a foto of my face, put it into the game and let the system model it in such way, that when it speaks it looks like an actual game character. That was soooo cool, back in the old days.
