WeView Verdict: Dante’s Inferno

It seems that digging a bit further back in time to get games for WeView may be the way to go. I generally put forwards titles from the last year or two, but going back that extra year seems to have produced a very positive response this time round.

Yes, Dante’s Inferno got quite a bit of love from the community, with XisTG calling it “by far one of my favourite games from this generation” and Unterred praising its “epic gripping story [and] fantastic atmosphere”. Then there’s nightdc, who loved the game so much that they “played it through about 6 times to collect everything.”

Let’s change direction for a moment though, and look at the most common topic in your reviews – whether or not it was a complete rip off of God of War. For example, Taylor Made called it “An unholy rip off, cheap knock off of the great God of War!” cam_manutd didn’t go quite so far, calling it simply “undeniably similar to God of War.” However, they did find that while “it has its flaws and similarities… Dante’s Inferno is a visceral hack and slash.”

Tuffcub was squarely in Dante’s camp when looking at a comparison between the two titles, saying that “It’s much better than God Of War.” Unterred took a similar view, saying that “It obviously is inspired by God of War but the story for this is much better for me.”

Scythegpd probably had the strongest view on the similarities between the two games. Their comment is fairly funny, but far too long to actually quote in here. Instead I’d advise that you go take a look over here to see exactly what they had to say.

With the inevitable comparisons out of the way, lets go back to focusing all of our attention on Dante’s Inferno. One of the biggest fans of the game I know is cc_star, who really wishes wants to see a sequel from EA. However, even as a huge fan of the game they feel that “undeniably it petered out before the end.” Even so, they praised “Garry Schyman’s superb original composition” and the fact that “the combat had a great feel to it.”

On the other side of the fence was Phizzy, who “thought this game was alright up until I got to a point where it autosaved when I was one hit away from death.” Given that the next chunk of the game “had no health pick-ups” they were understandably frustrated, and simply gave up on the game with a bad taste lingering in their mouth.

Now, onto the community’s overall verdict of the game. Avoid It picked up just one vote, while Bargain Bin It and Rent It picked up three each. However, the run away winner is Buy It, earning twelve votes.

Finally, there’s the matter of next week’s poll. Sleeping Dogs will be appearing in tomorrow’s WeView article, courtesy of Blair, while F1 2012 didn’t do quite as well and slips off the other end of the poll. As Dante’s Inferno did so well this week, I’ve dipped back to 2010 again for replacement titles. I’ve selected Metro 2033 and Just Cause 2, one of my favourite games, as the new games for the poll. As always, you’ve got until the end of Sunday to get your votes in.

  1. GBDC

  2. Haven’t played any of those yet, although Just Cause 2 came free with Ps+ (i think?).

  3. “Tuffcub was squarely in Dante’s camp” when I read this I for some reason thought DMC was involved, I should really go to sleep.
